We still have far to go towards a cure for diabetes! 38 years ago today our 22 month old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Thankful for insulin and for the technology and caregivers that have allowed him to not be held back by his diagnosis.

The first OTC continuous glucose sensor should be available by summer of 2024. Made by Dexcom, the Stelo CGM will be worn for up to 15 days, uses a smartphone as the reader with new results available every 15 minutes, no prescription needed. No information yet regarding the cost of this sensor which I believe will be key to its success. This sensor is not to replace the Dexcom G7 and is not compatible with insulin pumps. The G7 cost currently runs around $377 cash pay for a 30 day supply and requires a prescription.

Stelo is a wearable glucose biosensor, designed for people living with type 2 diabetes not on insulin. Learn more about Stelo and when it will be available.

As of August 1st I am no longer regularly scheduling patients at Tri-Cities Diabetes. My patients and I are so blessed to have had ARNP, diabetes specialist, Gloria Olsson join my practice several months ago. She is now providing care for my patients. She will be accepting new patients in a few months after establishing care with current patients. I will continue on as medical director at Grace Clinic and hope to now have some time to post diabetes updates here.

Medication doses are often adjusted based on laboratory values. Make sure the lab results your provider receives are accurate. Avoid Biotin supplements for 3 days before having blood tests, especially if you are having your thyroid hormone levels evaluated.

Make sure you're not taking too much
