Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Clarita Valley, SRD uses horse-assisted therapy to promote emotional growth in youth. With easy freeway access to the ranch, youth interact with the horses, donkeys, dwarf goats, and chickens. The goal is for youth to understand and appreciate the tranquility and love of our horses and other animals so they can foster and develop life skills necessary to achieve personal and family goals.

Wednesdays often feel like a turning point-stuck between the start and the finish of your week. But here's the good news: this day is just a day. Be present in the moment and the weight of what came before, and what comes after will ease.🌞

Being present isn't easy. It takes practice. The more we practice, the more we discover ourselves living life, rather than living in regret of the past or in fear of the future.

Animals like Moo can help us in this practice.💜

Mental health affects everyone. While not everyone experiences a mental health condition but the impact extends to the friends, family, coworkers and others who support them. Mental health is something we all experience, manage, and need support with. No one should have to face these challenges alone.

We are here for you! 💜
SRD Straightening Reins is a public nonprofit established in 2011 specializing in equine-assisted and interactive therapies designed to improve those who come to us with their mental health and well-being. SRD provides behavioral, educational, and community outreach services to youth and their families in Los Angeles County.

We do this with the help of horses. 🐎
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy and personal development programs are experiencing rapid growth around the globe because of strong outcomes.
Research shows horses add a compelling dimension to the clinical experience. They serve as powerful living metaphors and stand-ins for the challenges and opportunities clients face in their lives.

…” these young adults “want to have in-person communication, they just don’t know how.”.

In-person communication - aka talking with another person - happens every day at Ranch Crew. Another great life skill our youth are learning while at the ranch.

Liz Feld, who works on college campuses with Gen Z, says "They're threatened" by small talk. "They will tell us that they see a rejection in a conversation as personal failure."

Mondays can be difficult. It is common to wake on Monday with feelings of dread. It is easy to look at the week ahead and find it overwhelming or to fear what the week will bring. 

If these feelings are familiar to you try to revisit those moments with the following in mind.

🌅
Be present to the present. Once you think about what's NEXT you are no longer in possession of what's NOW.

The concept of what happens next doesn't matter.

Do you want to know why?
Because "next" doesn't exist!

We won't know what is next until it has already happened and it is no longer next. 

So when fears of what the week will bring steal you from the moment tell yourself...

We are excited to announce that Kaiser has awarded us a “2025 Office of Community Engagement and Government Affairs (OCEGA) Staff Community Project Micro-Fund grant". The project, sponsored by OCEGA, is an investment in our community.

🐑The grant is dedicated to improve the facility for the wonderful sheep we were happy to rescue from the Eaton Fire. Since their arrival, they have become valuable team members, helping us in our mission to provide healing through human animal relationships. 💜

Join us on Saturday, October 11th from 🕘9:00- 🕐1:00 to hang out with the herd and give back to them by helping to install some temporary mesh fencing & shore up the rest of the fence.
