Alphabet magnet letters are one of my go-to activities in sessions.

Not because I’m drilling letters or testing what kids know, but because they’re so open ended. Some kids sort by color. Some kids line them up. Some kids script entire Sesame Street segments while they play. All of it is communication, language exposure and learning without the pressure of having to “get it right.”

The best activities aren’t the ones that look the most educational. They’re the ones kids actually want to engage with.

I had to share really difficult news with my daughter this week.

I was sitting with her, validating her big feelings while trying to manage my own, I kept thinking about something I tell parents all the time.

Your child’s emotions aren’t too big for you to handle.

Even when you’re going through your own hard things.
Even when you don’t have all the answers.
Even when you’re barely holding it together yourself.

Kids don’t need us to be perfect.
They need to know we can hold space for their feelings, even when those feelings are big, messy, and uncomfortable.

So I sat with her. I validated what she was feeling. I let her see that I was there, steady, even though things were hard.

Because that’s what they need to see.

Not that we have it all figured out.
But that we show up anyway 🤍
