🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from Nutrition in Motion, P.C.!
As we gather with family and friends, it’s a great time to enjoy our favorite holiday foods mindfully.

Here are a few quick tips to keep you feeling your best throughout the holiday weekend:

🥗 Build a balanced plate: Start with veggies and lean protein, then add your favorite holiday sides.
🍽️ Practice portion awareness: Eating slowly and paying attention to hunger cues can help prevent overeating.
💧 Stay hydrated: It’s easy to forget water while celebrating.
🚶 Add a little movement: A walk after dinner does wonders for digestion and energy.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, and joyful Thanksgiving! 🧡

🏅 College Athletes: Fueling Your Performance Starts With Daily Habits 💪

As a student-athlete, your energy, focus, strength, and recovery all depend on how you nourish your body throughout the day. Good nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated — it’s about making steady, balanced choices that support both your training and your busy college schedule.

🔥 Smart Fueling Basics:

Choose balanced meals that include a mix of protein, grains or starches, and plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables.

Stay hydrated by drinking regularly throughout the day, especially when training or spending time outdoors.

Support recovery with satisfying meals and snacks that help you feel replenished after practices or games.

Be consistent — skipping meals or relying on quick fixes can leave you feeling drained and unfocused.

🏆 When you fuel well, you train better, think clearer, and feel more prepared for every challenge — on the field and in the classroom.

Let’s crush the semester and the season! 💥🥇

💧 The Role of Hydration in Athletic Performance

Hydration is a key factor in preparing for any athletic event. Being well-hydrated supports endurance, focus, and overall performance, while even slight dehydration can lead to early fatigue, slower reaction times, and overheating.

🔹 Why it’s important:

Helps regulate body temperature during exercise

Supports muscle function and joint movement

Aids in maintaining energy levels and concentration

🔹 Before the event:

Begin hydrating several hours in advance

Drink water steadily leading up to the event

Avoid drinking large amounts all at once just before starting

🔹 During the event:

Drink water regularly during breaks or transitions

Take small, frequent sips to stay hydrated without discomfort

For longer events, consider fluids with electrolytes if sweating heavily or exercising in heat

🔹 After the event:

Rehydrate gradually over the next several hours

Drink water alongside your post-exercise meal or snack

Continue to monitor how you feel — fatigue or headache may be signs of needing more fluids

Proper hydration is just one part of optimizing athletic performance and recovery. Partnering with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics ensures you receive customized guidance on hydration, meal timing, and fueling strategies that fit your sport, training schedule, and individual goals. If you’re ready to take your performance to the next level with expert support, contact Nutrition in Motion, P.C. today.

Why Athletes Should See a CSSD (Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics) 🥗⚽🏋️‍♀️

A CSSD is not just a Nutritionist—they're a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with advanced, board-certified expertise in sports nutrition. To earn the CSSD credential, they must:

🎓 Hold a degree in nutrition and dietetics
🧪 Complete supervised practice through an accredited program
✅ Pass the national RDN exam
📚 Have at least 2,000 hours of experience in sports nutrition
📝 Pass a rigorous board certification exam in sports dietetics

In short: a CSSD is the most qualified professional to guide athletes of all ages in fueling their performance, safely and effectively.

For growing athletes, nutrition isn't just about eating healthy—it's about eating smart to support performance, growth, recovery, and long-term health. A CSSD can:

✅ Tailor a plan to your sport, age, and training level
✅ Help prevent injuries and burnout through proper fueling
✅ Educate on safe, effective ways to improve strength, endurance, and focus
✅ Support healthy habits that last beyond the game

🏅 Whether you play for fun, competition, or somewhere in between, working with a CSSD can help you feel great, stay healthy, and perform at your best—on and off the field. Feel free to give us a call at 516-330-6040 or reach out via email (info@longislandsportsnutrition.com) to learn more about how you or your child can benefit from working with a CSSD.

It is very important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the summer, but many underestimate the importance of electrolytes lost in sweat. Electrolytes help to aid muscle function and water balance and distribution throughout the body, and can be found in a variety of sources.
