“I wish I would have been more patient with them when they were sick.” “I wish they knew how brave I thought they were.” “If only we would have taken that trip.” “Maybe if I told them to go to the doctor sooner, they would still be here.” Sometimes, after a loved one passes away, we find ourselves with more questions than answers. The “should have, could have, would have or I wish” statements can become overwhelming and complicate your grieving process. These sayings are common when dealing with unfinished business. Elisabeth Kubler Ross defined unfinished business as, “Unfinished business in grief encompasses unresolved conflicts, unexpressed emotions (like anger, guilt, or regret), or unmet needs within a relationship that existed before the loss.”

If you have been diagnosed with stage IV cancer or experienced the loss of a loved one to cancer, please consider attending the Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center [NWCC] monthly Together We Heal [grief support group] meeting on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, 3:00-4:00 pm. Our guest speaker this month is Andrew Macgregor, Chaplain, at Ashland Medical Center. Discussion will be centered on how do we process through “unfinished business.” Learn how to use the practice of the Four Gifts to move towards greater acceptance and peace.

The event will be at the Woodland Room of Essentia Health and the group will meet in the NWCC lobby at 2:50 pm to walk down as a group. For any questions, please reach out to NWCC Social Worker, Laura Martinsen, at 715.685.5004.

Our featured artist for July and August is Anastasia Christianson. Their wonderful artwork is on display in our Behavioral Health outpatient reception area through the end of August. These photos don’t capture the amazing glitter accents and bright, bold whimsical colors very well. It is definitely much better to view in person. Stop over and see for yourself. Thank you, Anastasia for sharing your talent with us.
