A Day of Hope & Resilience held on April 25 at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, brought together 23 individuals impacted by cancer in a space of compassion and quiet strength. Hosted by Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center’s Courageous Connections and sponsored by UW-Extension, the day allowed for nurturing and holistic healing with an emphasis on mind, body and spirit.
Cami Smalley, Well-Being Coach and Author, opened the day with her inspirational message that self-care is never selfish and how the mindful pause serves as a powerful reminder of the skills needed to withstand difficult times. Throughout the day, there were thought provoking breakout sessions that focused on the power of human connection and a brief review of WeCOPE series connecting with our positive emotions presented by Heidi Ungrodt and Tracy Henegar; both with UW-Extension.
Sara Wrobel, with Causeway Caregivers, encouraged attendees to complete vital documents with your loved ones Before the After. Regional Hospice Services & Palliative Care social services staff created space for a conversation about the importance of Advance Care Planning.
Holly Postava, Licensed Massage Therapist, provided complimentary hand and foot massages the entire day.
Sarah Routman, with Laugh Healthy, ended the day with an interactive laughter session to demonstrate the power laughter has on all of our lives. The day served as a powerful reminder that even in the hardest seasons, hope endures- and no one walks the journey alone.
