As an acupuncturist for over 20 years, I've seen that chronic pain and poor posture often go together. The Gokhale Method is brilliantly designed to help us rediscover our natural, healthy posture and integrate it into our everyday activities. I’m so pleased to be teaching this wonderfully effective, practical method of self-care. So many people get remarkable results from these simple techniques! It’s the little things that matter! Make sure you follow these posture tips while driving to prevent back pain. Build up the backrest area between the side bolsters with folded towels, so your torso is no longer sunk between them with your shoulders forced forward. Once you have your shoulders rolled back in place, you may discover you need to move your seat closer to the steering wheel to comfortably hold it. Be sure to keep a safe distance from the airbag.
Knees should be approximately at hip level, not above.
An unhealthy amount of built-in lumbar support is often found in car seats. What you really need is thoracic support that you can stretch your back against. You could also try the Gokhale StretchSit cushion available on www.gokhalemethod.com to help with your posture.

The Gokhale Method considers stretching to be one of many essential pieces in solving most people’s back problems. Even though stretching alone cannot give an equivalent result to that of a well-crafted Postural Modification approach, it is a good thing, and if slightly tweaked, could give better satisfaction and results in less time.
