For over 120 years, the Allendale Association has been a place of learning, growing and healing leading to innovation, creativity and adaptation. While 2017 has been a year of change and challenge, it has also been one of transformation and triumph as we continue to be what we have always been…a beacon of healing and of HOPE. This legacy of hope has endured for generations because of our continuing capacity to change lives.
We, here at The Allendale Association, have embarked on a journey of reflection. re-discovery and sharing with one another “The WHY” that drives the work we do: Why did we choose Allendale? Why do we stay? Why do we serve?
As we embrace new leadership and new ideas, our team of 327 dedicated and caring professionals who serve every day have responded to these fundamental questions with one simple and consistent answer— “We are here because of the youth in our care!” “We stay because these kids need us!” “We serve because they are worth it!”
Helping children, adolescents and their families overcome the trauma they have faced so often and so early in their lives is not easy. In fact – it is arguably among the most challenging of professional endeavors. Beyond the work itself, we have faced funding limitations, payment delays and leadership changes throughout the state. The work itself continues to be complex but so is the level of need and the problems facing youth and families today. However it is these same children and families who teach us every day that strength does not come from the absence of challenge, but rather it lies in how we respond to it and rise FROM adversity.
Through your tremendous support we have experienced achievements and accomplishments only made possible because our partners—all of YOU…our staff…our volunteers…foster families and countless community partners. Without you, Allendale would not be able to provide the care these youth need nor would we be able to help instill within them the hope that they deserve so they can begin to believe that their own tomorrows can, and will become better.
Youth and their families come to us from a place of trauma, isolation, violence and despair. We meet them with understanding, compassion and empowerment. This past year, Allendale served over 800 youth and families from throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. We helped them through crises, laughed with them when they were silly, hugged them when they felt sad, played with them, cooked with them, helped them with schoolwork, or coached them on a work site. Together we helped youth graduate from high school and transitioned to their new “home.”
This is our WHY.
It is a privilege to be a part of such an organization and “The WHY” of all who are a part of Allendale’s rich tradition. We look forward to working alongside you together as we continue to inspire those most in need… …and in need of hope.
Deepest appreciation,
