👏 Meet San Diego’s next generation of lung health leaders!

This summer, 54 high school students from across 11 school districts came together
for the 3rd Annual Public Health Advocate Camp — a powerful partnership between San Diego County Office of Education and County of San Diego - Government Public Health Serices Department.

From mental health to measles to tuberculosis, these rising juniors and seniors tackled big public health topics and created peer-focused prevention campaigns.
One standout project? “TB Tabby” — a trending, AI-powered cat video created by Max Arola, Bernie King, and Charlie Darr to raise awareness about tuberculosis symptoms, testing, and treatment. 🐱

Let’s give kudos to these inspiring young advocates working to build a healthier future for all! 💙

But people like Luis Mendez Gomez know there is more work to be done, even if the air no longer smells like burning tires. He has lived alongside a busy highway and not far from a refinery outside of Bakersfield for 40 years.
