We're kicking off our Community Feedback Friday series with a review from the Loveland Public Library about our Disability Acceptance & Inclusion Training!

"We have received so much positive feedback from your training today! I've had three or four staff seek me out at the desk or email to thank me for having you here and saying that you did a great job presenting. I am so grateful for your time and the additional time you gave us this morning. I hope you have an amazing day and a great start to the 2025-2026 school year!"

Wishing a warm farewell & big thank you to one of our amazing former advocates, Nami Novak!

Nami served as a Youth & Adult Advocate specializing in special education during her time with The Arc of Larimer County. Nami assisted many families in navigating the special education process and ensuring parents understood their rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Thank you, Nami, for your service and dedication to advocating for the rights of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Though we are sad to see her go, we are thrilled about Nami's next adventure in Denver as we know she will continue to be a bright light within her new community!

It's Client Testimonial Tuesday!

Today we are featuring the following testimonial from a former Arc of Larimer County special education advocacy client:
“Getting advocacy services from The Arc really helped my children. My advocate was extremely helpful with getting more robust IEP services in place, and even helped my child get transportation as a related service, which we were desperately needing. If I had not worked with an advocate, I would never have known what questions to ask, what my parental rights are, or how to appropriately advocate for my children’s needs.”

You might not feel the impact yet, but big cuts to Medicaid are in the new budget bill, and the timeline to implement is on the way.

This isn’t just about numbers in a budget. It means states will have less money for Medicaid programs, fewer people getting the care they need, and fewer families getting the support they rely on to stay afloat. People with disabilities rely on services such as home and community-based services, which are optional for states to fund. States are going to have to face budget choices in the coming years.

People with disabilities and their families are watching closely because these decisions will shape lives for years to come.

Once programs are cut, it’s hard to bring them back. The long-term effect will be felt by millions.

We are wishing a warm farewell and big thank you to our former Peer Advocate on staff, Julian Wang! Julian started his journey with The Arc of Larimer County through a SARTAC Fellowship and was officially hired as a Peer Advocate in 2020. Julian served a total of five years with The Arc of Larimer County, assisting and advocating on behalf of his peers with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in a variety of ways. Not only was Julian a dedicated Self Advocate, but he also served as the Interim President of People First, an Arc of Larimer County-sponsored group of adults with IDD advocating for change and inclusion, during the years of 2022-2024. Aside from his term as President, Julian has been and remains a member of People First since 2011.

Julian, THANK YOU for your years of dedicated service and activism on behalf of the IDD community. Though sad to see you go, we are thrilled about your upcoming fellowship opportunity as we know you will continue to effect change and impact hearts for years to come! Best of luck in your endeavors!
