January is National Radon Action Month ☢️🏠

Radon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that can build up to hazardous levels in homes. It is the second leading cause of cancer in the U.S. and can enter homes through rock, soil and groundwater.

The only way to know if your home has radon is by testing, and everyone should test their home every two to five years. Thankfully, testing is easy and inexpensive.

Radon test kits are available at most home improvement stores, and Wyoming residents can request a free test kit from the Wyoming Department of Health at https://health.wyo.gov/publichealth/cancer-and-chronic-disease-prevention-unit/cancer/radon/.

Your medical records are important and confidential. That’s why messages sent to our Health Information Management (HIM) team are handled through a secure messaging system.

To get started, text 307.672.1070 to begin the process of requesting copies of your medical records. Please note that, depending on the type of request and individual needs, some patients may still be required to visit our HIM department in person to complete consent forms or other documentation.

Last week, Wyoming Rehab physical therapist Justin Bridger, DPT, PT, CSCS, presented “Fitness Through the Lifespan” at The Hub on Smith. 🏌️‍♀️🧘‍♀️🏃‍♂️

During his presentation, Justin discussed how different body systems change as we age and shared practical ways to stay active and healthy through every stage of life. He also got everyone up and moving as he led attendees through interactive activities to test their balance, endurance and more.

January is Birth Defects Awareness Month 👣💗

Birth defects are health conditions present at birth that can affect the shape or function of one or more parts of the body. Common birth defects include heart defects, cleft lip and spina bifida.

Some important steps that may help reduce the risk of birth defects include eating a healthy diet and staying active, avoiding alcohol, smoking and other drugs and receiving regular care from an OB/GYN.
