❓What is the ONE TRAIT that can help you reach your goals?

✅ It’s not talent, luck, or genetics (although those things don’t hurt).

💪🧠It’s mental toughness – aka personal responsibility and accountability – and it’s something you can get better at, over time.

FUN FACT: It might mean something different than you think.

It’s NOT about being a single-minded drill sergeant who harps on discipline all the time.

In fact, it’s almost the OPPOSITE of that.

It’s about LOVING YOURSELF enough to follow through on your self-care and your goals.

Here’s a way to boost your mental toughness: Come up with ONE THING that’ll move you closer to your goals. Something that you have the time and resources for.

Then… commit to yourself to get it done! And get it DONE.

What is ONE THING you can do, starting today? 💪🔥

👩‍🍳You will love this salmon marinade recipe!

It’s fast and easy – and there’s very little cleanup involved.

Salmon is packed with good-for-you omega-3 fatty acids, and if you happen to have leftovers, it’s GREAT in a salad for lunch the next day.

💡TIP: If you don’t have a grill, you can bake this for 10-12 minutes in a 400ºF/200ºC oven. Keep your eye on it and take it out of the oven as soon as it starts to get flaky.

5-Ingredient Marinated Salmon
(serves 4)

1½ lb. salmon, skin on one side (wild if possible)
2 Tbsp coconut aminos
1½ Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ cup olive oil, plus more for brushing the grill

Lay the salmon skin on a cutting board and slice it into 3 equal portions. Place in a baking dish, skin side down.

In a small bowl, whisk together the coconut aminos, mustard, garlic, and olive oil until it emulsifies. Pour over the salmon and let marinate at room temp for 10-15 minutes (tops!).

While it’s resting, preheat your grill to 400ºF/200ºC. Brush the grill grates with oil to prevent sticking.

Place the salmon on the grill, skin side down, and grill for 4-5 minutes, then turn over.
Cook for another 4-5 minutes, until the salmon is cooked through and begins to flake.

Serve with a side of veggies and sweet potato. Yum!

(Tag me with a pic if you make it! 🙌)

I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s been a 3-month journey from the initial screening mammogram to diagnosis. But now I know. It doesn’t feel real yet. I can’t feel it. It’s deep so it was only detected on my screening mammogram. Women, get your mammograms! I haven’t st...

Here's the challenge I've been working on. I'd love to have you join me for 5 days of learning about how to take care of your mind in the middle of this stressful season in nursing. We spend so much time caring for others that often our own thoughts and emotions get pushed to the side. Until there is no more room for the "stuff" we've shoved down. This pandemic has just magnified some unhealthy practices that as nurses we just think of as, "part of the job." I'd love to help you with taking out some of that mental trash.

This is a picture hanging outside our ICU. I pause and look at it every time I walk by. I know nurses have suffered during this pandemic. But I hope that they also recognize the power of the care that they have provided during this challenging time of so much suffering. I know that they have paid a heavy price.

But I also believe that it was no accident that you were doing your exact job at the exact time that those patients needed you. I've gotten to see it from both sides. I am a nurse and I have watched my coworkers struggle with ever-present change and deep sadness. I have watched them fight for their patients. I have watched them cheer for the ones that recovered. And I have watched them cry for those they couldn't save. I have watched their leadership do their best to guide them in the face of something none of us have been through before. And I have watched from the sidelines as a family member as we lost a dear loved one too young.

All I know for sure is that each one of you matters. Each hand that you hold. Each treatment you give. Each family member you update on the phone when all you hear on the other end is sobbing. It all matters. It makes a difference. You are here for such a time as this.

What story are you telling about 2020?

What is your 2020 story. How you tell the story of 2020 matters. Because you carry that into 2021. It's not just about seeing the world with rose-colored glasses. But how you frame the things that happened in your life shapes the actions you take today. You can be a victim or a victor. It's about the thoughts that you think and the story you're telling yourself. You decide.

I tend to love starting things but I have had a history of not finishing. This project almost fell victim to that fate. I got frustrated about 1/3 of the way through. The patterns and yarn sat in my closet for months mocking me. Yet another thing I wasn't going to finish.

A few weeks ago I picked it back up. It became a therapeutic way to end a stressful work day. It comforted me through days of loss. It was a bittersweet moment this morning when I finished it.

Negative self-talk will wear you down!

If it isn’t what God says about you, don’t say it to yourself.

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!” Psalms‬ ‭139:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
