Diet culture loves to dictate how we should "try harder," monitor our food intake, and compare our bodies.

But it's okay to say 🙅‍♀️ no to those harsh demands!

Instead, let's…
💜 embrace self-compassion as the foundation
💜 tune into our bodies' unique cues
💜 nourish ourselves without rigid rules or restrictions

Let's nurture a kinder, more intuitive approach. 💕

👉 Which of these "Yes" practices feels most nurturing for you right now? Let me know in the comments below! 👇

Did you know many health insurances cover nutrition counseling for cardiovascular wellness? ❤

This American Heart Month, I invite you to think beyond the scale when it comes to heart health.

Instead of focusing on weight, consider how you can cultivate more self-compassion, nourishment, movement, community, and other practices that leave you feeling vibrant and alive.

👉 If you have a family history of heart disease or other personal risk factors, nutrition counseling with a size-inclusive dietitian may be covered by your insurance.

Using an intuitive eating approach allows you to make lifestyle changes from a place of self-care rather than restriction.

You deserve to feel empowered and at peace with food and your body. Small, sustainable shifts rooted in joy can have a big impact on your health and quality of life.

So this month, reflect on how you can honor your whole self - inside and out. You are so much more than a number on a scale. Your heart deserves gentleness, patience, and care.

---

I help women with a lot going on develop healthy and joyful relationships with their food, and peace with themselves and their bodies at any size. I talk about intuitive eating, practical self-care, and basic skills.

This was a fun holiday-themed discussion with Holistic Mama Speaks Podcast and Rising Phoenix Family Therapy!

We touched on different aspects of wellness across multiple areas, taking time to build your capacity through self-care (especially with the potential stressors of family gatherings), and expectations and desires around movement.

In the 12/16 heartwarming and inspiring episode of the Holistic Mama Speaks Podcast, listeners are treated to a delightful conversation as Carrie Marie welcomes two remarkable first-time guests, Shelly Najjar and Kristina Bagnoli. Together, they embark on a journey into a topic that beautifully weaves together wellness and faith during the festive holiday season: “Nurturing Wellness and Faith – Staying Active and Connected During the Holidays.”

🚺 Are you guilty of holding your p*e?
Holding our p*e is just one example of how we tend to ignore our body's signals.
Think about it - how many times have you pushed through hunger or exhaustion because you were too busy or too focused on other things? 😅
🚨 Our bodies are constantly sending us signals, but we often ignore them in favor of our busy lives. It's easy to get disconnected from our bodies and forget to listen to what they're telling us. This can lead to burnout, stress, and a host of other health problems.
Learning to tune in to our bodies and honor their signals is an important part of self-care 💆‍♀️
Whether it's recognizing when we need to take a break, honoring our hunger signals, or taking that bathroom break, we need to learn to listen to our bodies if we want to live healthy, happy lives.
✅ Take a moment today to check in with your body. What is it telling you? Are you hungry, tired, or in need of a break?
By learning to honor our body's signals, we can take better care of ourselves and live our lives to the fullest.

Sometimes overwhelm and confusion may be indicators that something else needs to happen first.

When nutrition science and recommendations come after the right mindset is established, it's not a big deal.

Let me know if you're feeling this way, I'll do what I can to help you figure out what you might need to get to that right timing 💕

🐶🥺 Can you imagine if we treated puppies like we treat our own bodies?

If your body's telling you it’s hungry, it needs food.

You’ll be able to think more clearly, focus better, and manage emotions better once you eat.

If this resonated with you, share the experience! Share and/or tag a friend who will also benefit 💕

🏃🏻‍♀️ NO TIME TO COOK? Keep reading for some helpful time-savers:
🌾 Most grains can be cooked in large batches and frozen in sections to quickly defrost later

🥫 Canned beans are already cooked so you can add to salad or pasta for a quick protein

🚚 Order groceries online/in-app, many have “buy it again” features to save time

🥔 Stock your kitchen with go-to ingredients to reduce the last-minute “I don’t have food!” realizations

🥬 Use pre-chopped, pre-washed fresh or frozen fruits and veggies to save on prep time

🍕 Try half and half: buy the entree ready-made, and use a bagged salad or frozen veggies to round it out

🥡 Remember that there’s nothing wrong with ordering takeout.

⏲ Choose what fits your budget and lifestyle! This goes for the tips above and the tips you get from others. It isn’t fun to save time doing things that aren’t helping.

📅 Kitchen Confidence and Compassion (my upcoming retreat this fall) will help you learn to nourish yourself in a way that makes sense for and supports your daily life.

Quick Tip for Busy Women: Remember to eat. It sounds simple, but when we're busy we often forget to look after our basic needs. If it's helpful, try a timer set to 3 hours to check in with your body and grab something simple.

If you feel like you have to cheat or hide what you're eating, it might be a sign that your eating plan isn't working for you.

If this resonates, consider how you might feel if you allowed yourself the freedom to eat those foods you're eating anyway, without the guilt.

If you're wondering how this works out for your health, know that people who eat with fewer food rules and restrictions actually have better health than those who try to restrain themselves or control their food.
