Welcome back to school! ✏️📚🚌Time to get back into a routine which means reestablishing good eating, sleeping and a healthy bathroom ritual. Back to school is a common trigger for childhood constipation. Many children feel uncomfortable going #2 at school because of no privacy, not enough time or because the bathroom is dirty. When kids choose to hold their stool in, the colon absorbs the water out of the stool, which makes it hard and dry. If this behavior persists, a child’s brain can ignore the urge to go to the bathroom which can lead to constipation. Treatment may include diet, lifestyle changes, and good bowel habits.
What to look out for👀:
-Less than three bowel movements a week
-Hard stools that are difficult to pass
-Cramps, stomachaches, or nausea
-Feeling full or bloated
-Re**al bleeding
-Frequent urination, or bed-wetting
-Soiling (leakage of stool that a child can’t control)
