Acid reflux becomes more common with age. As we age, we tend to put on more weight, we may not be as physically active as we once were and may have more sedentary lifestyles, leading to weight gain. Studies have shown that being just 10 to 20 pounds overweight makes you 3 times more likely to have heartburn. When you over eat, pressure is applied to the lower esophageal sphincter, which can cause it to relax and allow acid past its guard, leading to a night of heartburn. Also, with age, the stomach muscles and tissue fibers weaken, and it’s not uncommon for the upper portion of the stomach to bulge into the chest cavity, a condition called hiatal hernia, which commonly results in acid reflux.

Life expectancy for men in USA in 2022 according to CDC was 74.8 years. Increase life by:
🔹Eat healthy – add more fruits and vegetable into your diet and try to limit eating foods that are high in calories, sugar, salt and fat.
🔹Get moving –make a personal goal to reach 2 ½ hours of physical activity per week. Participate in activities you enjoy will help you to stay motivated.
🔹Quit to***co- to***co smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in the U.S. and the primary cause of COPD and lung cancer.
🔹Make prevention a priority – schedule yearly checkups and regular health screenings with your doctor or local health department
🔹Monthly testicular self-exams are important for the early detection of testicular cancer
🔹June 27th is National HIV Testing Day and everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of their routine health care. Those who are at a higher risk for HIV should be tested more often. For free HIV testing, contact your local Health Department.

✈️Healthy Travel Tips for Living Longer🧬🦠🩺💊
As much as we all love to travel to distant lands and take our stress away, traveling can cause a lot of stress on our bodies.
✈️When you travel you go through different times zones and this can cause havoc on your circadian rhythm, which disrupts our normal sleep cycle. Circadian rhythm is our internal biological 24 hour clock that influences our sleep/wake and fasting/ feeding cycles, as well as our lipid/glucose metabolism, hormone secretion, body temperature, and cardiovascular health.
✈️ To minimize jet lag, try small dose melatonin at bedtime, and in the morning for an energy boost, NAD+ precursors: Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) or Nicotinamide MonoNucleotide(NMN), and remember to hydrate well while holding alcohol and caffeinated or sugar drinks!
