Why is Nordic walking beneficial for amputees?

Nordic walking is a comfortable and easy way to get fit or remain active and it’s suitable for all types of amputations. Nordic walking is an effective way to continuously improve activity levels and is especially beneficial for amputees because it provides a full-body workout that additionally supports balance and stability. The poles offer safety and stability and using them helps distribute weight more evenly, reducing stress on the lower limbs and joints, which is particularly advantageous for those with prosthetics as it takes pressure off your residual limb.
This low-impact exercise also enhances cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength without overloading any single area of the body. Rhythmic movement and increased use of the upper body can improve overall coordination and posture. You can begin slowly and as you become fitter you can increase your pace and make the activity more challenging.

Nordic walking is also a great way to get outside and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors. Because Nordic walking can be easily adapted to individual needs. Contact kiera@limbpower.com to find out more about our instructors.
