Yes, this is called Oral Allergy Syndrome.

This is typically a mild form of allergy that can cause your mouth, throat, and sometimes your ears to itch and tingle after eating certain raw fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts.

We know. ❤️

It is weird that you can react to some foods because of your airborne pollen allergy. This happens when your immune systems slightly gets confused. 😵‍💫

This pollen is similar to some of the exact proteins in foods. This is called cross reactivity.

As a result this triggers an immune response, which results in oral itch and tingling.

Today is March 1st, National Peanut Lover's day!

We can imagine that for those of us that have peanut allergies, it can be hard to resonate with the excitement for National Peanut Lover's Day.

Here at AllergenIQ, we would use this opportunity to increase our IQ on one of the most common questions that we get.

Question: Why is it that our peanut allergic child can eat from a certain restaurant that uses peanut oil, when they have severe peanut allergies?

Answer: The answer is that some of these oils are highly refined. Full Refining of oils usually results in an almost complete removal of the peanut protein, which is the portion that is responsible for reactions. So, for most peanut allergic individuals these types of highly refined peanut oils are tolerated.
