If you treat your radiology like visual surgery, you'll have improved outcomes across the board. Make sure you get the best ROI for your imaging. You've got to have a reason more important than the risk.

Faster MR exam times open up many new clinical possibilities.

The network, dubbed fastMRI, shortens the scanning time because it only requires a quarter as much data to resolve the image. But rather than wait for k-space to fill up, fastMRI only needs 25 percent of the data that traditional MRI machines would require to generate those same images (below).

Certain individuals have T-cell immunity, likely providing them asymptomatic or mild infections. The next question is whether these individuals still transmit infections to others.

New research from Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital shows that many people with mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 demonstrate so-called T-cell-mediated immunity to the new coronavirus, even if they have not tested positively for antibodies. According to the researchers, this means...

Invisible outbreaks sprang up everywhere. The United States ignored the warning signs. We reconstructed how the epidemic spun out of control.

While summer temperature DOES have a small effect on decreasing transmission, the best predictor on transmission is still physical distancing.

Research finds temperatures above 77 degrees Fahrenheit impede transmission of COVID-19, but not enough to quell the epidemic without other measures.

Changing your mind based on new evidence is an important part of the scientific method.

In our culture, we often hold politicians, corporate executives and other leaders accountable for the consistency of their positions. But in the scientific world, thinking is expected to evolve based on new evidence — and that's happened during Covid-19.

Another excellent article on drilling down on risk factors for infection.
Summary: ONE side of a floor within a S Korea call center had nearly all the cases. The "other-siders" on the same floor, even though they used the same elevators and spent time in the same lobby had much lower risk of infection.
This shows the risks of sustained indoor proximity.

AMAZING summary of available infection information from an Immunologist. Long but worthwhile read.

The take home message: Prolonged time in enclosed spaces are very concerning from a transmission standpoint, representing 90% of infection tranmission.

Why?
"The main sources for infection are home, workplace, public transport, social gatherings, and restaurants. This accounts for 90% of all transmission events. In contrast, outbreaks spread from shopping appear to be responsible for a small percentage of traced infections."

Please read this link to learn about the author and background to these posts. It seems many people are breathing some relief, and I’m not sure why. An epidemic curve has a relatively predictable upslope and once the peak is reached, the back slope can also be predicted. We have robust data from t...
