Walk with me
Walk with me sisters, we can’t walk alone
It’s not safe in the night time to try to go home
Walk by my side in the better-lit street
Avoiding the eyes of the people we meet
Let’s tuck in our hair and wear a big coat
Stick to the main routes and don’t go remote
Let’s take out our headphones so that we can hear
Life-saving things like when footsteps are near
Walk by my side as he’s walking behind
As my potential kidnap plays out in my mind
With alarm in my pocket and escape route prepared
I try not to look and try not to look scared
Walk with me sisters with bagged up shoes
For the comfy quick runners are safest to choose
And we can’t risk the clip-clop of heels on the street
Like a victim alarm to the people we meet
When the van slows down horribly just as it passes
Let's think of the moves from our self defense classes
With our car keys in hand and our knuckles so white
We’ll wish that each day was not followed by night
If we get in a taxi, just phone a fake friend
Make sure driver knows someone waits at the end
Watch the route like a hawk so you know where you are
As female alone with a man in his car
I’ll tell you I’m leaving and what time I’ll arrive
So someone knows to make sure I’m alive
If I don’t text you later please give me a phone
Walk with me sisters, we can’t walk alone
