Congratulations to the Project Genesis graduates! This summer, the DMC, Gilbert Family Foundation and Detroit Public Safety Foundation relaunched Project Genesis, a paid summer internship program designed to give Detroit high school students exposure to careers in healthcare and emergency services. With a generous investment from Gilbert Family Foundation, 25 high school juniors and seniors from Detroit high schools gained eight weeks of hands-on experience at Detroit Receiving, Harper, Hutzel and DMC clinics. The program concluded with student presentations.

Since 2005, Project Genesis has been helping students unlock opportunities and build confidence to lead in professions that keep our communities healthy. Special thanks for Chief Todd Bettison, Detroit Police Department for speaking to the students, and the many program leaders and mentors for supporting the student’s career development.

When it came time to make plans for her third child, Ashley came back to DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital even though she had moved farther away. “I liked having my care established with my OB group. I trusted them and I had good experiences. I built a relationship with my OB. The staff made time for me, and were able to get me in quickly when there were issues. When there were complications and an emergency C-section, the whole team reassured me, monitored me closely, followed through, and made me feel confident and safe,” Ashley shared.
