Today is Election Day! 🇺🇸

In the world of food EVERY DAY is Election Day. You vote with your fork every time you purchase food. When we buy overly processed foods full of dyes, chemicals and preservatives, we let the food industry know it’s ok. 🥴

I’m not here to get political , but as a health coach I’m just here to remind you that the crap in our food system is contributing to health issues. Our poor bodies don’t know what to do with these additives! ☠️🤢

I’m not perfect and have certainly eaten my fair share of bad food. But the more aware I become the less I want that in my home much less my body. 🍎🫐🥦🥕🍓

If you struggle with food choices, DM me! Let’s have a conversation!

Happy Friday Everyone! 🤩 It's been a minute since I posted, but I have been working on some things to bring to the table of my business. That said, STAY TUNED! New things are coming...

In the meantime, it has been on my mind to address weight loss. Everyone I encounter is on a weight loss journey or has been at some point. It seems to be a very important topic for many of us. I, myself, have struggled with weight gain and how to shed those extra pounds. It's not easy!

Here's what I know:

The struggle seems to be real in that our food system in this country is difficult to navigate. Walking through the grocery store aisles we can get overwhelmed by choices and "what should I eat" is the big question. KISS! Keep it Simply Silly! Eat real, whole food. We live in an ultra-processed food system. Boxes, bags and packaged food. Michael Pollan puts it best in his book "Food Rules"...if it was made in a plant, don't eat it, if it is a plant eat it!🍎 Our bodies are not designed to handle the chemicals and toxins in processed foods. For more information on that, check out books like "Good Energy" by Dr. Casey Means, & "Food Rules" by Michael Pollan. The most important thing is EDUCATE yourself! Learn to read labels and know what you are putting in your body.

It seems like most of us want a quick fix to the weight loss. Recently drugs like Ozempic are taking the weight loss market by storm. Due your due diligence when it comes to drugs. Remember, to be gentle with yourself...the weight didn't come on overnight, it won't come off in one day.

Weight loss is a journey. Embrace it. Enjoy food. REAL food. It's time to have more conversations about food and ingredients. Our collective health depends on it!

What is Magnesium and do you get enough? It is estimated that 2-15% of Americans are magnesium deficient. So what is it and why do we need it?

Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions. Here are some key points about magnesium:

1. **Functions**: Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including energy production, protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. It also contributes to the structural development of bone and is required for the synthesis of DNA and RNA.

2. **Sources**: Dietary sources of magnesium include green leafy vegetables (like spinach), nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, dairy products, and some water sources also contain magnesium.🥬🥚🧀

3. **Recommended Intake**: The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for magnesium varies by age, s*x, and life stage. For example, adult men typically need around 400-420 mg per day, while adult women need about 310-320 mg per day. Pregnant and breastfeeding women have higher requirements.

4. **Deficiency**: Magnesium deficiency can lead to symptoms such as muscle cramps, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, nausea, and irregular heartbeats. Chronic deficiency can contribute to more serious conditions like osteoporosis, high blood pressure, and heart disease. ❤️‍🩹

5. **Supplementation**: Magnesium supplements are available for those who may not get enough from their diet. Common forms include magnesium oxide, citrate, and chloride. It's important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting supplements, as excessive intake can lead to adverse effects like diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal cramping. 💊

6. **Health Benefits**: Adequate magnesium intake is associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. It also helps with maintaining healthy brain function and may play a role in mood regulation and sleep improvement. ❤️💪🏼😴

Eating a variety of colorful foods is a great way to ensure you're getting a wide range of nutrients. Different colors often indicate different vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can benefit your health. Here's a quick guide to what some colors can offer:

❤️ RED (e.g., tomatoes, strawberries, red bell peppers): High in antioxidants like lycopene and vitamin C.
🧡💛 ORANGE & YELLOW (e.g., carrots, sweet potatoes, citrus fruits): Rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C, and other antioxidants.
💚 GREEN (e.g., spinach, broccoli, kiwi): Packed with vitamins K, C, E, and B, along with fiber, calcium, and iron.
💙💜 BLUE & PURPLE (e.g., blueberries, eggplant, purple grapes): Contain anthocyanins, which are antioxidants that support heart health.
🤍🤎 WHITE & BROWN (e.g., garlic, onions, mushrooms): Provide important nutrients like fiber, potassium, and magnesium.

Incorporating a rainbow of foods into your diet can help you maintain a balanced and nutritious eating plan.

Mindful eating is a practice that involves paying full attention to the experience of eating and drinking, both inside and outside the body. Here are some key aspects of mindful eating:

1. **Awareness**: Paying attention to the colors, smells, textures, flavors, temperatures, and even the sounds (crunch!) of your food. Notice the sensations of hunger and fullness.

2. **Non-judgment**: Letting go of guilt or anxiety about food choices. It's about observing without criticism.

3. **Savoring**: Taking time to enjoy your food, eating slowly, and appreciating each bite.

4. **Listening to Your Body**: Recognizing physical hunger and satiety cues, rather than eating out of habit or emotion.

5. **Being Present**: Avoiding distractions like TV, phones, or reading while eating, to focus solely on the act of eating.

Practicing mindful eating can lead to better digestion, enjoyment of food, and a healthier relationship with eating.

Yay!!! It’s Monday! 🎉

Most of us dread Mondays. I used to be the same way! Back to the grind , starting over with the diet and exercise … BUT the good news is it doesn’t have to be that way!

I use Mondays to set my goals and intentions for the week. Small sustainable goals make it easier to stay on track with the big ones. Write them down and check them off as they get accomplished ✅

Make a list of the things to do for the week.

Move your body! A walk, some yoga, dance in your living room.. moving your body helps keep up the motivation.

Drink water! Staying hydrated keeps the blood flowing. Add a little lemon for some extra flavor. Lemons also are a great detoxifying fruit!

Create new habits that keep you going throughout the week.

There are 52 Mondays in a year… what will you do with yours?

Spring cleaning is an activity most of us try to do this time of year. We are decluttering and making space for new things and getting rid of junk we no longer need . It feels good to organize our closets and homes! It has a positive effect on our moods and overall wellbeing. Cleaning out your pantry can also have positive health benefits:

✅ Reducing food waste: By organizing your pantry and checking expiration dates, you can avoid keeping expired or spoiled food, which can lead to foodborne illnesses.
✅ Encouraging healthy eating: A well-organized pantry makes it easier to see what healthy options you have available, which can encourage you to make better food choices.
✅ Reducing temptation: Removing unhealthy or processed foods that may be tempting can help you stick to your dietary goals.
✅ Creating space for healthier foods: Cleaning out your pantry can create space for more nutritious foods like whole grains, beans, and nuts.
✅ Improving kitchen safety: A clean and organized pantry reduces the risk of spills and accidents, making your kitchen a safer place to prepare food.
✅ Mental clarity: A clutter-free pantry can contribute to a sense of order and calm in your kitchen, which can positively impact your mental well-being.

Overall, cleaning out your pantry is a great way to promote a healthier and more organized kitchen, which can support your overall health and well-being.

I have 10 openings to help you with a pantry makeover and clean out! I’m also adding one FREE coaching session to help you jump start your health and wellness goals!
