CMS published its Comprehensive Regulations to Uncover Suspicious Healthcare Request for Information (CRUSH RFI) and is seeking feedback on strategies to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse in CMS-administered programs. AHIMA provided comments related to improving and streamlining the claims filing process and advocated for appropriate and supervised use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support improved coding and billing processes.

The final rule updates the HIPAA standards for healthcare claims attachments and electronic signature requirements, reducing reliance on manual, paper-based processes. This continues CMS' efforts to eliminate the use of faxing and mailing. The compliance date for these new requirements is May 26, 2028.
