Sudden cardiac arrest doesn’t wait for EMS, doctors, or the hospital.
It happens in homes, workplaces, gyms, restaurants, and schools.

In that moment, the person standing closest becomes the first responder.

Immediate CPR and early AED use can double or even triple survival, but it only works if someone nearby has the confidence to act.

That’s why training matters.

In Birmingham, only about 16% of people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest receive CPR from a bystander. That means 85% of victims never get help before EMS arrives.

The survival rate here is only around 3%.

Skyler Cope CPR LLC was proud to teach Hands-Only CPR today at the Birmingham American Heart Association Heart Walk before joining the walk ourselves.

Every year, thousands of cardiac arrests happen outside of the hospital, and immediate CPR can double or even triple someone’s chance of survival. Teaching the community how simple it is to act in those critical moments is something we’re incredibly passionate about.

A huge thank you to the amazing UAB Emergency Department physicians who invited us out to help educate the community. Collaborations like this are how we continue to improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

Today we had the opportunity to teach participants how to:

• Recognize cardiac arrest
• Call 911 immediately
• Start Hands-Only CPR with strong, fast chest compressions

It only takes two hands to save a life.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth to learn and practice with us.
