How It Began

While strategizing with my associate Ryan Martin of Chesapeake Midstream, we identified a significant deficiency in public awareness outreach in the Eagle Ford Shale region. At the time, pipeline awareness outreach sessions would only draw 50 - 60 attendees to the Pearsall venue even though the region was at an all time oil & gas boom. Our event began as nothing more than an idea but as we shared our vision with stakeholders from across the industry, support, ideas, and donations came flooding in. With the support of 33 sponsors & exhibitors donating more than $28,000, we had lofty expectations of up to 300 attendees at the inaugural 2014 event so we were considerably surprised when more than 800 people showed up. The event was such a success that we were asked to hold a 2nd year event where event partner Williams Pipeline agreed to execute a pipeline rupture demonstration taking the event to the next level. In 2016 we brought the City of Pearsall in as a full partner and added a First-In Firefighter Fitness Challenge to stimulate attendance of regional firefighters. In 2017 came the addition of a Texas Peace Officer Skills Challenge to bring in the law enforcement community. The Eagle Ford Safety and Equipment Rodeo Roundup is now an established event that stakeholders from around the region look forward to attending every October to learn about utility & pipeline damage prevention, emergency response tactics, and a myriad of excavation safety related topics.
