Hey Babes, Happy Tuesday.

A common question I get is, how do I improve my babies sitting?
The answer is- bench sit them!
When a baby sits on a step stool, or wooden bench, they activate from their hips and sit bones. Especially when you support them like in the picture, place your hands on their hips and ground them (meaning, push down and into the bench).
Bench sitting is a proven effective technique and evidence based, how fabulous is that?

Let’s talk about before afters babe. When a baby sits is when you see Torticollis asymmetrical neck movement more. Meaning, you see the tilt more, the shoulders are raised, and there is less neck movement.

To improve neck movement sometimes that means working in another position, sidelying, to complete end range neck movements.

Hey babes let’s talk about improving your babies sitting skills. A baby at six months should ring sit for about 30 seconds without support. Progress that to nine months when baby can sit in a variety of positions and very well. How can we improve sitting? By holding medium size toys for example a big ring like the one you see here so that baby reaches up and out with both arms. Guess what babes? Baby neck movement is an essential early milestone which can be promoted with cues. For example, a baby at 1,2, even 3 months may not have the mature vision system necessary to complete smooth graded movements, so that’s why handling and neck movement exercise is appropriate to skill the baby neck to turn.

Here’s the steps,
1.) cradle the back of your baby’s head
2.) with your other hand, brush the baby check starting from the ear to the tip of the baby lip
3.) move with baby as baby turns their head , repeat, or apply some sustained finger pressure to the tip of the baby lip to facilitate more movement.

Of course, you should consult your pediatrician and pediatric physical therapist before trying this at home.

Happy New Year Babes 2022!! I hope you all have made reflections for the new year and are hopeful for the future that lies ahead for all of us.

This year I’ve been blessed with two therapists, one assistant, gifts and custom cookies from based in Chicago.

It means so much to me to be known for the specialty work that I do. After 9 years, the work hasn’t changed. I’m just better at it. xoxo

Hey Babes, we are here, responding to serious and high demands.


Even though The Baby Doctor sees many patients, we value quality care and safety first! This includes sanitizing all toys to reduce contamination.

For toys that can be immersed they get a bath in warm water and disinfectant. For toys that cannot be immersed in water, they are each individually wiped down. Each baby means a new bag of toys.

Our cleaner? It’s self made, we do not mess around with spreading germs and illness to these special baby patients. I wish I could say I use a “green” solution, but the truth is, a potent tonic is what you need to wipe out bacteria and viruses.

Let’s talk about improving tummy time babes.

A baby of FOUR to FIVE months, begins straightening the arms for active tummy time play. This can be facilitated over your leg for example supporting baby over your lower leg. Then, you guide their arms to the floor for that sustained pushing you are going for.

You can also “knock knock” aka knock your babes hand on the floor and then brush their hand down to facilitate opening their hand. Check out this adorable babe squawking and responding to the movement to participate in active tummy time play.

When baby experiences something for the first time, they will surely let you know.
