Local to Lincoln, NE Beekeeping and Honey Business Bax’s Bee Barf started with a phone call from my dad:
“Hey Dan. I was hooked.

One of our hives swarmed, and you said you might be interested in keeping bees. If you want them, you can have them.”
I turned the offer down, then kicked myself over the next week as I regretted my decision. As I was sitting at the doctor’s office, another phone call came:
“Another one of our hives swarmed. Are you sure you don’t want to keep bees?”
I immediately rushed to my local beekeeping su

pplier and dropped $200 on a single level hive, hoping and praying that my wife wouldn’t kill me. We assembled the hive that day, got it painted, and I picked up my bees the next morning. We poured the bees into the hive very gently, and they set up shop.

The ladies have been at work! This week we added our final honey supers on all hives that needed them before we harvest in a couple of weeks. We have lots of capped honey in our hives that should make for a solid harvest #1 this season!

The porch bin is back with our final quantity of $6 bottles left from last season. Harvest starts in about 4 weeks for the 2025 season, but these last bottles won’t make it until we get ready to bottle again in Late July. Come and get it on the porch at 1531 North Gate Cir!

We had another swarm capture tonight off of one of our own hives. This was a big one! The landowner spotted this one while horseback riding today, so plans were cancelled and changed and we got these bees a new home!

Speaking of swarms, we had a small swarm come off of one of our hives today. Luckily our neighbor was nice enough to let us cut the small tree down and shake them into a new hive.

Swarm season is here! If you see a ball of bees hanging out on a branch, in a bush, or even on a sidewalk or driveway, don’t kill it! They are most likely a swarm from a hive just looking for a new home and will be very gentle. Contact us and we will come and remove the bees, for free!

We were at 75% losses this year, which makes me feel better that we were right on par with the Midwest, but really concerning. We finished with 3 out of 12 still alive, so this weekend was all about making splits and installing new packages.

It’s honeybee delivery day! Each package holds 3 pounds of bees and a queen. Meatball was a little nervous to ride shotgun.

We bottled up the last of the 2024 harvest tonight, so you know what that means! We have a limited supply left of honey until at least JULY 2025! PM us for details on when/where you can get your fix! If you want it, come and get it!
