10am "Fascia and Lymphatics - Reduce Pain and Optimize Recovery" - Brianna Cardenas
Brianna will be discussing the pain/ fascia/lymphatics connection and how it affects tissues. Review of relief options including fascial counterstrain.
11am Womb Witchery - Aja Whitten
Join Aja for this Womb wellness mezcla with a guided self-massage, meditation, and the creation of a womb steam blend.
12pm Ayurvedic Wellness for the Fall Season - Laura Croyt
Learn supportive nutrition and lifestyle practices to remedy common Fall imbalances. Gain an understanding of how to support your highest wellness through the changing seasons with the ancient Indian healing science of Ayurveda.
1pm Catered Ayurvedic Lunch
From 3pm-7pm the space will be transformed into our treatment hall.
Practitioners will be offering sample treatments for 20-30 minutes each. Purchase a treatment for $20 and book your time slot!
7pm Closing Sound Bath Session
Enjoy a meditative sound bath session as we conclude our Self Care Fair day.

Honoring our culture bearers whose rhythms are transmitted on baby-hipped transmission of Yanvalou. Like serpent shedding, there have been storms with wind and thunder and crossroads, when I have felt blind and unsure of where to plant my feet and stay on beat. Enter the most potent guides, those who call in the lightening that brings illumination. Shout out from the juncture between death and rebirth to this daughter of Oya whose hips have bounced my baby, wind has cleared my path forward, and who whirls me back into serpentine shape.

Where my AfroBoricuas at? Loiza (where everyone looks like me) was formed in 1600s as a safe haven by mostly Yoruba who escaped slavery. This hood felt, smelled, and sounded like our hood: multiple generations living out loud, creating style, art, and maintaining traditions with poverty, police violence, the ocean and plena, reggae, afrobeat, and hip hop as the backdrop. The community, young to elder, showed up and out at a local bar to dance bomba. It is the dancers who take turns owning the threshing/dance floor to direct the drummers in rhythm and movement that express joy, frustration, and legacy. There is a collective honoring of the performative aspects of life and their ability to energetically clear and uplift us all. A-rose from concrete 🌺

Did a bit of “historical glamping” as I wanted to experience what my great great grandmother’s upbringing might have been. My family lineage is so powerful and protective. Like the fragrance of Jean Nate she has been permeating my dreams the past few years to comfort and awaken me. It is her voice that has called me back to her motherland. Her laughter came through my cousin as we sifted through photos and constructed our family tree, and through the light in my Tia’s eyes as she told us her story. I cried then cried some more until all that was left was supple.

The art in the walls in Ponce speak to Boriken’s complex past/present. The guerrilla farmers at took the pain of an abandoned, syringe infested former sugar cane plantation owned by the family the produces Don Q rum and in 5 years transformed it into a thriving food forest. Using indigenous syntropic techniques such as planting in concentric circles and spirals, using wild horses to graze and fertilize, a guppy-filled hydroponic rainwater collection system, they have shifted the legacy of this place into an abundant future. Majestic moringa trees, ceremonial to***co, castor, yucca, gandules whose seeds were brought by mirmadones (those Africans “who came prepared to fight” with seeds braided into their hair)…Here in the midst of a busy downtown and the ruins of the past, I sat next to the fire with these stewards of the earth and shared stories of transformation surrounded by the fragrance of night blooming flowers. Though we struggle and grow locally sometimes feeling disconnected in the Diaspora, this was a beautiful reminder that like the roots of trees our communion with each other thrives underground.

Following the trail of my ancestors’ call led me deep into the mounTainous heart of Boriken. The ceremonial grounds at Caguana include a Batey ball court (space for ritual and a way to use completion to resolve disputes without war). It is surrounded by cemis, resonant stones marked with petroglyphs of deities and imbued with power. One of these is Bibi Atabey, the mother goddess of fertility, prima mater, and the abundant water of supreme Love.
