The Student Planning Organization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a student group under the Illinois chapter of the American Planning Association. Our goal is to facilitate educational, professional development, and social events for all Urban Planning majors and minors at the university.

Join us this Wednesday, November 15 at 5:30pm in TBH227 for a professional planning portfolio workshop. Alumni Eric Van Buskirk and Francesca Sallinger Lawrence are going to discuss how to create a planning portfolio for public and private sector jobs. Hope to see you all there!

Please join us this Friday from 2-4pm at the Independent Media Center in Downtown Urbana for a Zine Workshop led by MUP 2 student Kennedy Causby. Zines are short magazines that can hold a variety of social and personal messages and images. Throughout history, zines have played an important role in advocacy and communication. The workshop will explore the history of zines and teach attendees how to make and share their thoughts through this creative medium. All zine making materials will be provided along with pizza and snacks. Hope to see you all there!

NOVEMBER GENERAL MEETING!!! Join us for our final general meeting of the semester this Wednesday, November 8th at 5:00pm in TBH 227. We will discuss our upcoming events with DSUP, professional development opportunities, and the SPO Exec Board Elections.

Afterwards, meet us at Brother’s Bar and Grill for a happy hour with at 6:00pm. Meet local planners, urbanists, and elected officials interested in planning!

Parking Day 2023🚫🚗

Thank you to all of our amazing tables and organizers that made Parking Day so special. We turned 14 parking spaces into yoga studios, performance spaces, classrooms, crafting tables, and much more! ❤️

TAKE BACK THE TAR with SPO🚗🌱

PARK(ing) Day 2023 is Saturday, September 30th from 1-4pm. SPO is collaborating with a series of RSO’s, local businesses, and community organizations to reclaim parking spaces in Campustown. Join us in the parking spaces on 6th Street between Green and Healey for a day of crafts, plants, music, and fun! See you there.

APA-IL 2023🧡

Thank you to everyone who made the journey to Naperville last week for the 2023 APA-IL State Conference. We had a blast meeting planning professionals and attending the engaging sessions over three days.

Shoutout senior Colleen McCauley who presented on Missing Middle Housing with the City of Champaign on Monday. It was truly inspiring to see a BAUSP student presenting at APA:)
