Resilient & United Communities of South Georgia

Resilient & United Communities of South Georgia Serving Atkinson, Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Clinch, Echols, Lanier, and Lowndes Counties

Made possible through funding from Resilient Georgia, Resilient & United Communities of South Georgia is a mental health coalition serving an eight-county region across the following counties: Atkinson, Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Cook, Echols, Lanier, and Lowndes Counties. Greater Valdosta United Way is the lead and backbone organization as well as the fiscal agent. Through the development of a shared vocabulary and comprehension of hardship over the past two years, Resilient & United Communities of South Georgia has raised the level of awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and resiliency in our community. We will continue to provide online, on-demand, and live trainings that promoted regional trauma-informed practices and ACEs prevention, reduction, and intervention methods. Our Goals for Years 3 and 4 are as follows:
o Continue building a Trauma-Informed Community
o Improve Resiliency using the Community Resiliency Model
o Continue to create awareness and aid the prevention of childhood Trauma: ACE’s prevention
o Promote Positive Childhood Experiences

Last Friday, May 2nd, Greater Valdosta United Way hosted their Day of Caring. Thank you to the volunteers who came out and helped us paint our hallway in the Lowndes County Outpatient Clinic and thank you to Greater Valdosta United Way for all you do for this community! 👏

This morning, United2Prevent board members Taylor Fisher and Tammi Creamer rolled up their sleeves and gave back during the Greater Valdosta United Way’s Spring Day of Caring! 🖌️🫟 They spent the morning painting at the Children's Advocacy Center of Lowndes County, Inc., an incredible organization that provides vital support and healing for children in our community. This cause is especially close to our hearts, and we’re honored to be part of a day that brings hope, love, and care to those who need it most. ❤️

We're only two weeks away from our mental health month celebration. We hope you can join us.

Thank you Mayor Scott James Matheson and Chairman of the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners, Bill Slaughter for your unwavering support.

In collaboration with the Lowndes County Mental Health Coalition, we placed green ribbons on the lawn at City Hall in Valdosta and created yard signs to distribute to businesses and individuals in an effort to spread awareness.

Mental Health Matters.

We have yard signs available if anyone would like one! Please reach out to Susan Nebel at snebel@unitedwayvaldosta.org.
