Winter came and pretty much handed me the cold of all colds and I couldn’t justify visiting children with compromised immune system with the kind of cough I had for so long.
I’m feeling much better, these days, and am ready to plan our next event for them. Before I continue into it, I’d like to thank you all so much for volunteering last time. Family House SanFrancisco enjoyed our giving time, smiles, baked goodies and happy memories to all of the kids and parents who came, that day and are eagerly awaiting another visit from us. Case in point;
I got word from a friend of mine who frequents UCSF, (quite often), that someone was in a waiting room, somewhere, talking about that day that a bunch of superheroes showed up and visited with the kids! Apparently, it left a great impression and they had such a great time! It’s often too easy to assume that these people move past their time at Family House but it’s kind-of not the case for many of them. I’ve been keeping up with Family House’s Facebook feed and am seeing a lot of the same faces we saw that day. Cancer sticks around in sneaky fashions and that extends their stay.
So, my hope is to do this one a quarter, (sicknesses notwithstanding). Q-1 kinda got ‘coughed away’, but Q-2? I have a cunning plan.
Remember how we brought baked goods, DVDs and toys the first time? I think this time, we bring fun easy-to-play games (I’ll defer to the parents in the group for ideas, here), and a card table. (See where I’m going with this?) Okay, so, Family House probably has folding tables and chairs (I’ll work that out with them as they probably have to be sanitized).
Bottom line; I believe that ‘seeing’ a super hero and having your picture taken with them is one thing, but to have the opportunity to *interact* with super heroes face-to-face playing their favorite game? That ought to create quite-the-memory.
Feel free to respond with ideas and suggestions for Event #2.
Allons’y!
