We are so thankful for the help and support of the Camas Washougal Community Chest and how they showed up to support the community through our work at Akin! The support of you and our community is helping us stock up for food backpacks, refill our pantry, and keep diapers in stock too! We can’t thank you enough!
You may have seen the recent article in our local newspapers featuring the bare food pantry shelves at Akin (the organization formerly known as the Children’s Home Society) at the East County Family Resource Center in downtown Washougal. Those shelves would have remained empty until Stuff the Bus at the end of the year, except for an emergency grant from the Camas-Washougal Community Chest.
Akin currently packs approximately 130 food bags each week, distributing them to local schools to support students
and their families. They also distribute 400-600 diapers and 100 menstrual products per week, and they are experiencing a steady increase in family visits seeking food and other essential items to help meet their basic needs.
The Community Chest maintains emergency funds that we occasionally use to fill gaps in local support programs and services. Please donate to the Community Chest today to help us help nonprofits like Akin keep our local youth and families warm and fed in these cooler fall and winter months. https://www.camaswashougalcommunitychest.org/donate/
