Announcement time!

Nurtured Blossoms has moved!

I loved Connecticut so its a bittersweet move. I met some absolutely amazing families. I am so grateful for them trusting me to support them in such a moment in their lives. The birth community there was so welcoming to me as a new business but I have moved back to where my journey as a postpartum doula started.

I am excited to start supporting families in the San Antonio, TX area! If you or anyone you know is expecting or recently had a baby I would love to chat on how I can provide support!

It's been a little while since I have done any type of "business" post. I thought I would do an "about me" because when you work with Nurtured Blossoms Doula Care one of the great things is there's no middle man to talk to and coordinate with, its just me. If it's just me though I feel like you should actually know who you are working with. So here are some things about myself, the face behind the business:

1. My name is Ashlynn. I have 3 little ones. Them and my experiences postpartum are my why behind my business. Everyone's experience postpartum is unique but I have been on that side multiple times now with drastically different levels of support each time. I feel those experiences help me to empathize with my clients on a different level.

2. In 2019 I graduated with my bachelor's in social work. Then in 2022 I completed postpartum doula training. I then worked as a postpartum doula for a non-profit providing free doula services to lower income and teen parents. It was also that year that I started Nurtured Blossoms Doula Care.

3. In 2023 my family and I relocated to CT where I now serve families.

4. I am also a homeschooling mom. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to watch my kids learn and grow and the quality time I get to spend with them. With that I am grateful for a spouse that supports my crazy schedule as a doula and a mom. Without him this business wouldn't be possible.

5. I had home births with all 3 of my kids.

6. In my free time I love to bake. Right now I am on an endeavor to go through this huge King Arthur Cookbook on bread making and try out most of the recipes.

Some of my favorite moments as a postpartum doula is rocking and getting baby to sleep. Sometimes I am doing that while parents rest themselves, or get dinner ready, or tend to older siblings. As I just finished up with one local client last week and have a short pause in work for some extra rest and focus on family I am always so honored to be a part of a family's postpartum journey and so grateful for every client.

If you are expecting it is never too early to set up postpartum support so then you don't even have to think about it once that time comes. Or if you recently had a little one don't hesitate to reach out to see if Nurtured Blossoms Doula Care is a good fit for you and your family.

As a postpartum doula we can help you navigate this period of life with a new baby. We can be someone you can talk with. We can help you navigate all the ups and downs of postpartum and parenthood, help you prioritize self care by allowing you time to rest or shower, help with household chores so you have less to worry about, and we can be a source of knowledge when things seem confusing. Remember, it's perfectly okay to seek help and prioritize yourself.

All the things like blankets, clothes, wipes, and diapers can all be so helpful. In fact, we usually all spend months preparing and thinking of things we need or want for baby's arrival. But no amount of things, like blankets, stuffed animals, bouncers, or packs of diapers will substitute for hands on help and support.

Things can't be a substitute for the support a postpartum doula can bring in terms of providing a listening ear to process things with. Things can't provide the ability for parents to rest knowing their baby is in good hands while they do so, to have time for self care. Things can't be a substitute for having hands on help with dishes, sweeping, tidying up the house or meal prep so you have less things to worry about and can bond with your baby more. It isn't a substitute for help navigating how to adjust to adding a little one when you already have another child at home. Baby items can't help you navigate all the little things that comes with having a baby such as breastfeeding, the ins and outs of baby care, postpartum recovery, or who to reach out to when things aren't going the way you hoped.

Make yourself a priority during postpartum. Find your supports whether that's in family, friends, or hired help or all of the above. Find the little things that fill your cup and make them a priority. Don't be afraid to let people know what you need physically and mentally and know it's okay to ask for help.

One thing I've learned as a doula is to never go to a family's home with expectations on how our time will go. Instead my goal is to enter your home with a bag of many hats ready to pull them out as needed. To try my best to be what you need most in the moment.

Sometimes that means I am a chef and spend my time meal prepping nourishing food for the family or cutting up vegetables for dinner later that day taking off some of the load. Sometimes that means I spend time sipping tea or a morning coffee with mom processing how she feels her birth went and how things are going. Sometimes my time is spent pulling out my social work background and assessing how things are going, asking questions, educating, setting goals, and giving referrals to other professionals such as lactation support, pelvic floor therapists, physical therapists, pediatricians etc. Sometimes I spent my time tending to baby and the home tidying up while parents rest or mom pumps or tends to older siblings. Sometimes it includes taking a walk and chatting bout life. Every postpartum visit is different and flexible and that's one thing I love about this work.
