How many times have we heard statements like, "well, now that he has the talking keyboard, can't he just use it everywhere?" or "she has an AAC device but she doesn't really use it."
Did you know that most students who use or should be using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in the U.S. are not communicating proficiently (Andzik, et al., 2017)?
Further, research shows that unequal access to AAC is a major barrier for autistic students with little functional speech (Light & McNaughton, 2015).
That's why Communication for Education's training addresses a systemic barrier that prevents our students' communication skill development: comprehensive training for communication partners who support text-based multimodal AAC use in educational settings.
