A special shout out and a huge thank you going out to...

For the love of Paws and the therapy dog team!!!
Vero Beach Comprehensive had a very special visitor this morning...

Meet Sira, a very sweet and friendly Schnauzer who stole some hearts this morning! Clients enjoyed spending time with Sira, petting her, talking to her and as some said "Just loving on her". Sira also did some tricks for the clients and made everyone love her even more!
Thank you Debora for volunteering to come visit us and bring us such a sweet fur-friend! Dogs really are man's best friend!

Your voices were heard!

VICTORY FOR FLORIDA FAMILIES! ❤️💙

The House accepted the Senate BUMP Offer, and the crisis-only HCBS waiver restriction language appears to be REMOVED.

This means APD can still move funding forward through budget amendments to support the HCBS waiver program without limiting enrollment only to individuals in crisis.

Families, self-advocates, providers, and advocates spoke up loudly over the last several days, and your voices made a difference.

This is what advocacy looks like.
This is what community power looks like.

Thank you to everyone who emailed, called, posted, shared, and fought for Florida families with disabilities. We are stronger together.

URGENT: Families Needed to Email Budget Chairs & Presiding Officers This Weekend Regarding APD Waiver Enrollment
Budget negotiations are entering a critical stage, and families, self-advocates, providers, and community supporters need to continue reaching out immediately regarding APD waiver enrollment funding.

At this point, negotiations are continuing between the House and Senate. If the final budget released Tuesday excludes funding for continued waiver enrollment beyond crisis cases, it will go to Governor DeSantis, who can approve or veto items within the budget. Therefore, it is extremely important that elected officials continue hearing directly from families and stakeholders now.

I've attached the Senate APD proviso language and budget update memos.

Please also continue forwarding this information to other families, caregivers, self-advocates, providers, and community supporters.

Please send emails to:

Chair Ed Hooper: Hooper.Ed.web@flsenate.gov

Chair Lawrence McClure: Lawrence.McClure@flhouse.gov

Senate President Ben Albritton: Albritton: albritton.ben.web@flsenate.gov

boyd.jim.web@flsenate.gov

House Speaker Danny Perez: Daniel.Perez@flhouse.gov

Representative Sam Garrison: Sam.Garrison@flhouse.gov

Possible subject lines:

Please Support Continued APD Waiver Enrollment
Please Prevent Families from Remaining on the APD Waitlist Until Crisis
Protect Continued Enrollment for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

Template email:

Dear [Senator/Representative Name],

I am a [self-advocate/parent/family member/caregiver/provider/community supporter] concerned about proposals that would significantly limit additional APD waiver enrollment unless specifically authorized by the Legislature.

Individuals with developmental disabilities and their families were told to apply early, plan ahead, and place their names on the APD waitlist. People should not have to wait until they are in full crisis before receiving support.

Home and Community Based Services were designed to help prevent crisis, preserve families, and allow individuals to remain safely supported in their homes and communities.

Please support continued movement from the APD pre-enrollment list and continued expansion of waiver services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Community-based supports were designed to prevent crisis, not wait for collapse.

Families across Florida are counting on leadership to continue moving this program forward.

Respectfully, [Your Name] [Your City]

Vero Beach Comprehensive has been busy this month learning about Florida Agriculture and growing an indoor garden.
We've learned about soil, planting seeds, pests and natural ways to deter them. We've learned about gardening zones, native plants and our friendly pollinators 🦋🐝🐞
We started an indoor garden and planted from seed... Gourmet lettuce, salad bowl lettuce and parsley. Clients are excited everyday to check the sprout progress and watch it grow. Watering the garden has become a favorite for all.
Today we planted flower seeds and once sprouted, clients will bring them home to support our Florida bees. 🐝

Vero Beach comprehensive rescue ranchers returned to Florida Rescue Ranch today for another 7 week session of Animal Connections!
🐴♥️🐖
Clients started the day with hugs and greetings for people and animals! They've missed this program and that was very obvious this morning!
♥️
First stop on the animal list was the newest addition to the ranch, a rescued puppy! Lots of hugs And kisses shared with him. Then it was off to check in on sparky, the adorable rescued pig who has done a lot of growing in 2 weeks!
♥️

The theme for this session... Kindness
Sharing and expressing kindness to people and to the animals. Each of us is unique with how we express it.
Everyone enjoyed creating friendship bracelets, having conversations and spending time with the animals.
Then it was off on a nature walk to find the perfect rock and shell for next week's project.
Everyone stopped by to see the minis and talk about how animals share kindness, to us and to each other.
Another perfect day of connecting... With each other and all of our animal friends!
