DOVE Transplant - Living Kidney Donation for Veterans

DOVE Transplant - Living Kidney Donation for Veterans DOVE's mission is to find, educate, support and match living kidney donors to Veterans in need. DOVE stands for Donor Outreach for Veterans.

DOVE believes in the power of community engagement to help remedy the kidney donor shortage for all. We are a nonprofit organization that serves as a "matchmaker" - raising awareness about Veterans who are waiting for a lifesaving kidney donor and connecting them with potential donors (friends, family, anonymous) who want to help. Once donors contact us, we provide them education and support thro

ughout the evaluation and surgery to enhance their experience and ensure any expense is fully covered. Many of our donors, Veteran recipients remain connected with our growing community and stay on as volunteer mentors, advocates to continue raising awareness about lifesaving organ donation. DOVE is based in NJ however we serve Veterans throughout the US.

From Manhattan Kansas to Manhattan New York - (USMC Veteran) Gunnar Naughton traveled to donate a lobe of his liver one year after his kidney donation.

Gunnar joined the very elite group of Dual Organ donors 2 weeks ago. He was matched anonymously to a teenager.

His surgery was performed robotically by Dr. Jason Hawksworth at Columbia Presbyterian. He was discharged a few days later and felt strong enough for quick tour of the Upper West Side and brunch 6 days post surgery.

Gunnar is back home in Kansas and getting stronger each day. We hear his recipient is doing extremely well too.

Thank you to Gunnar and wife Kayla (donation can only happen with strong caregiver support) Thank you to the fantastic transplant team and all who work together to save lives and step up for one another each day.

Gunnar now wants to start LOVE (Liver Outreach for Veterans) to help match living liver donors to Veterans in need.

Stand by for more on this!!!!

The Transplant Games of America: Where Donation Comes Alive

Listen here: https://donordiaries.com/the-transplant-games-of-america-where-donation-comes-alive

You can’t fully understand organ donation until you see what it makes possible. Parents reaching milestones they once thought they might miss. Grandparents meeting grandchildren. Families holding both grief and pride at the same time.

In this episode of Donor Diaries, we take you to the Transplant Games of America, happening June 18 to 23 in Denver. Often described as a “mini Olympics,” the Games bring together transplant recipients, living donors, and donor families for a week that feels more like a family reunion than a competition.

Laurie is joined by three voices who represent every side of the donation story.

- Bill Ryan, donor dad and President and CEO of the Transplant Life Foundation, shares how decades of experience producing large-scale events led him to steward this powerful gathering and why it continues to grow.

- Mark McIntosh, founder of Victory Productions and chair of the 2026 Denver host committee, opens up about living with amyloidosis, surviving kidney failure, and receiving a life-saving transplant in 2024. Now a longtime media personality and motivational speaker, he is using his platform to drive awareness around kidney health and living donation.

- And Kathleen Hostert, living kidney donor and co-founder of Life’s Short. Live It., shares her deeply personal story of donating a kidney to her husband Craig and walking alongside him through transplant, cancer, and the meaningful years they might not have otherwise had.

Together, they explore what makes the Games so unique, why living donation is a practical and powerful response to the organ shortage, and how this community creates space for both celebration and healing.

You’ll also hear what to expect in Denver, from competitions and ceremonies to the moments in between that are harder to describe but impossible to forget. Kathleen shares updates on a large-scale gathering designed to bring living donors and recipients together in one place, inspired by global milestones and grounded in the idea that generosity can ripple further than we imagine.

With National Donate Life Month as the backdrop, this episode is an invitation to move beyond awareness and into action.

Bridget Wise is a deeply religious Christian woman and has lived her life with meaning and in service to others. Bridget has served in the Army Reserves for the past 13 years as a Medical Corp Specialist.
When she saw a commercial about a Veteran in search of a living kidney donor, she saw this as her calling.

Bridget donated three days ago and has already been discharged and feels fantastic.

Bridget will be away from family and Church in Plano TX for Easter -

Bridget: May the hope and joy of Easter fill your heart with renewed faith and blessings and please feel our gratitude and love!

Tomorrow is the Annual Remember and Rejoice Ceremony that honors organ, eye, and tissue donors, recipient stories, and families. Held at St. Patrick's Cathedral, this event celebrates the selflessness of donation and the life-saving impact on recipients.
DOVE would like to recognize a special member of our community - Jennifer Sayles, a living kidney donor, who passed away last year. Her family will be attending and we hope they feel our love and support.
