Homebirth is a safe option for low-risk pregnancies, and has many benefits! Here's 5:
🌊 Increased control: Mama's choice in who attends her birth, not limited to hospital limits, not being told she isn't allowed to do things (walk, move, birth in certain positions, etc).
🌊 Lower rates of medical interventions: Lower rates of interventions being pressured onto mama, which can have significant benefits for the labor process.
🌊 Increased satisfaction: Women who choose homebirth often report greater satisfaction with their birth experience compared to those who give birth in a hospital. Mamas who are listened to and given informed consent have less birth trauma than those who feel their choices were taken away from them. Also, inductions and medical interventions tend to cascade into more and more interventions, which can lead to an unplanned cesarean, which can be highly traumatic if that was not expected.
🌊 Familiar environment: Giving birth at home makes mama feel safe, which decreases anxiety and promotes relaxation- both of which contribute to oxytocin production, which allows labor to progress.
🌊 Sibling Participation: First, hospitals limit visitors and have age restrictions. Second, imagine how impactful it is to have your children witness their siblings being born. What a shift in our cultural fear of birth this would have, especially for our daughters!
