Birthday Reflection – Honoring My Parents

Today is my birthday. In the teachings we have received in the Nation of Islam, this is not only a day to celebrate life, but a day to honor our mother and father—the two people Allah chose as vessels to bring us into this world.

My parents are no longer here physically, but today I reflect on their true value. No matter the circumstances of life, we are taught never to judge our parents, but to honor them, especially our mothers who went to the very door of death to bring us into this life.

I thank Allah for the time I had with them.
They did the best they could with what life gave them, and for that I am grateful.

Even if they were simply the vessels through which Allah brought me here for a purpose I am still learning, I remain humbled and honored.

Today I remember them with love and gratitude.

Bible – Exodus 20:12
“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”

Holy Qur’an – Surah Al-Isra 17:23
“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you show kindness to your parents.”

May Allah bless the parents who brought us here, those living and those who have returned to Him.

Alhamdulillah for life.
