Last week, nearly 30 associates at Watercrest Myrtle Beach participated in the Second Wind Dreams featuring the Virtual Dementia Tour: an immersive experience that deepens understanding of what it’s like to live with dementia.

Christine Heaton, Senior Memory Care Director at Pelican Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care, guided the training with support from RLD Candice Jenkins, helping team members see daily routines through a new lens. The experience was more than powerful: it was practical, equipping our associates to lead with more awareness and patience. 🤍

When Matthew first joined the Watercrest Winter Park team, his resume wasn’t the longest, but he quickly showed his commitment in every role and his growth has followed. Now, he’s been promoted four times and leads as Executive Chef! That trust came not just from leadership, but from peers who brought his name forward before the position was even open.

Across Watercrest, food is proving the most delicious path to whole-person wellness! This summer so far, Chef Manny guided our Pelican Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care residents through California-roll techniques and the Mystic Ice Cream truck parked at Watercrest Buena Vista for associate appreciation. Market Street Viera has been eating all over town, Chef Dwight from Watercrest Palm Beach Gardens teamed up with resident Sue for a latke demonstration, and Chef Matthew at Watercrest Winter Park continues to build trust and preference-based menus through chef chats.

These tasty and hands-on activities are part of Live Exhilarated programming: nourishing connection, curiosity, and joy through each plate! 🍽️

Before his name was on the office door, Declan William's leadership showed up in quieter ways: walking a resident’s spouse to her car, mentoring a new hire through first-week nerves, showing up early, staying late.

He started at the front desk with a set of keys and a drive to learn, but every Watercrest title Declan Williams has previously held– Concierge, RCS, Med Tech, and Resident Lifestyle Director– had something in common: he led with purpose before he held the position. Now, he’s the Associate Executive Director at Watercrest Winter Park, because growth here doesn’t come from climbing a ladder. It comes from being noticed, nurtured, and believed in.

His journey is a reflection of what happens when mentorship is more than a meeting, and leadership is modeled daily. Sheena Jeffries and Kim Haddon: his mentors, advocates, and colleagues, shared the moments that made the biggest difference.
