"What is a teacher? I'll tell you; it isn't someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the student to give of her best in order to discover what she already knows." About us: Pursue was created out of a dorm room in Memorial Hall at Baylor. And this won't be a sappy story, trust me! It orginally was a little idea about empowering females to do more than what they think they can do. Society and the mind are very powerful things, both can limit and extend our pursuits and desires. By speaking positively and encouraging women to pursue their dreams and push past the limitations set by the mind and society, anyone can truly pursue their dreams. When we were all little girls we had big dreams of being something amazing like an actress, a lawyer, a doctor, a firefighter, an astronaut. BUT then we got into middle school or junior high and we were introduced to new social problems such as consciousness of our bodies, self-awareness, beauty, dating, grades, bullies, hygiene etc. This meant we had to deal with communicating our opinions and feelings about these issues. We had responsibilities, obligations, pressures, and angst. Lots and lots of angst. Some of us wanted to rebel, some wanted to hide away, some wanted to try new things. We all led very different personalties and attitudes during these middle-level years. Some decisions were good and some were bad. I personally went through a time when I was a bully, then I was bullied by others, and finally, tried to hide away in wearing large sweaters because I hated my body and how I looked. We all have experiences of what happened to us in these years. Since then, we have matured, grown, come to understand what happened to us in those years and can look back on them and laugh. But in the Waco community, girls are facing these problems and more, such as poverty, financial burdens, and family issues. I am more than sure we have all dealt with these more serious issues and more. And we have PURSUED! We overcome the challenges and become better women who can help empower those young girls today. And that is the point of Pursue, to help these girls by discussing easy through tough topics, issues, problems, and concerns. We can become mentors for these girls to lead better, healthier lives in pursuit of their dreams. We want these girls to push past the limits of their minds and society so that they may flourish.

We're having a profit share on Tuesday, October 3rd from 5-9 pm at Pie Five in Waco! Please support us by mentioning the Pursue fundraiser to the cashier or showing them this flyer in electronic or paper form. We will receive 20% of all net sales made. The money goes to helping fund events and resources for our very deserving mentees. We would love to see you there!

I am a senior International Studies and Arabic and Middle East Studies major from Bellville, TX. I joined Pursue as a freshman because I loved its mission of empowering young women to become all they can. It is a joy and a privilege to know the incredible young women we mentor and to witness the impact of mentoring in their lives. I'm so excited to see what we accomplish this year!"

Please welcome back Mariana Higareda as our Vice President! "My name is Mariana Higareda and I'm a senior economics major. I'm from Lake Jackson, Texas (a small town right outside of Houston). I joined Pursue my freshman year and it has been a big part of my college experience ever since. What I love about Pursue is that it connects us with amazing girls with so much potential and our mentors are awesome. I cannot wait to see how much Pursue will grow during my last year at Baylor!"

We are so honored to receive a Golden Apple award from Waco ISD for our partnership with Indian Springs! Pursue President Hannah Byrd accepted the award at the Waco ISD Adopt-A-School breakfast this morning. Please welcome our 2017-2018 Treasurer, Beth Bender!

"Hi! My name is Elizabeth Bender. But I usually just go by Beth. I am a senior completing a University Scholars major with concentrations in Child and Family Studies and Medical Humanities. I spent most of my childhood in Minneapolis, MN and consider it home. However, I have lived all over the place! I love Pursue because I appreciate the opportunity to take an hour out of my week to give back to the Waco community in a unique way. I am really passionate about working with adolescents and believe it is important to come alongside of them to assist them at being successful at life. A fun fact about me is that I have a beagle named Bagel!"

"My name is Ezzy Racelis. I'm going to be a junior Psychology Pre- Physical Therapy major this coming school year and I'm from Austin, Texas. I would like to make a difference because a little goes a long way and the Pursue organization is a great way to help make a difference in a young girl's outlook on life. It's not really a fun fact, but I have recently discovered I am talented in the art of catching food with my mouth."
