April 19th is known as World Liver Day. To honor my beautiful gift and awesome donor I’d like to spread awareness about liver health and liver transplantation. Did you know more than 100 million people in the U.S. have some form of liver disease? Or that two million people die of liver disease worldwide EACH year. Liver disease is known as the silent killer because it doesn’t always show symptoms until damage is done. The risk of developing liver disease is increased by diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, exposure to toxins, and too much alcohol consumption. Liver disease can also be hereditary. Recent data shows a large increase in liver disease testing and awareness should be a priority!! Treatments for liver disease include diet change, exercise, taking medications , surgery and avoiding alcohol. In severe cases Transplant surgery is needed. There are 9,862 men, women, and children on the national liver transplant list waiting for their miracle as of April 2024, every 8 minutes a new person is added and everyday atleast 17 people lose their life waiting. There is no device (dialysis machine) that can permanently replicate the functions of the liver and the only hope for survival is liver transplant. In 2022 I found myself in need of a liver transplant and I am so thankful for my donor. If you are not an organ donor please go to https://www.registerme.org/ and sign up. You could save a life or even 8 life’s. 💚💚
Take care of your liver and it will take care of you.
