This week talked about hope in her newsletter. Something she said stood out to me “Hope, not as a formula or an assurance that things will get better, but the refusal to relinquish imagination.”

How needed that is to remember for domestic abuse/coercive control, when we are toe to toe with darkness so often. Another piece of that newsletter stood out - the Latin phrase “dum spiro, spero” which means “while I breathe, I hope.”

As we prepped for the Female Survivors of Violence Conference we decided to lean in to this & create a place for conference attendees to write their hope. This was the end result. I hope it serves as a reminder to all that we refuse to relinquish our imagination on what could be in this space.

So grateful to be here at Female Survivors of Violence Conference. This is my third year as an attendee, second as a speaker, & first as an exhibitor. Two of the amazing are here as well! Excellent opening keynote by the very amazing and much talk of hope.

As I tell my team, there is always light - even if it’s the light of the dumpster fire. 🔥 But there is more hope even still. One day perhaps we won’t need these conferences because we will have reduced the problem of domestic abuse/coercive control to almost zero. Until then - dum spiro, spero - if I breathe, I hope. If WE breathe, WE hope.

I saw a similar post by regarding emotional abuse. It made me think about the spiritual abuse I’ve endured. Turns out, some of what I was taught looked nothing like Jesus and everything like coercive control. What would you add to the list? Drop it below. ⬇️ I may make another carousel of yours. If you want - feel free to DM me what you want to share.

All abuse is physical abuse. Period. Coercive control gets missed because we use terms like “domestic violence” which often implies physical assault. Every single therapist. Biblical counselor, pastor, and people helper need to understand the dynamics of coercive control or you run the risk of being complicit.
