Shellfish play an essential role in Rhode Island’s blue economy. Narragansett Bay is home to several commercially viable species, but industrial practices continue to threaten their habitats and encroach on the natural environment that sustains them—and all of us.

Sensible regulations that embrace our partnership with the ocean would enhance this fishery and in the process, embody the true meaning of the blue economy—from the bottom up. If everyone treated the Bay and our surrounding waters as a collaboration, these mighty bivalves would flourish.
