Let us not forget that while the nation celebrated Memorial Day (whose civil war origins are told here - https://www.google.com/amp/s/time.com/5836444/black-memorial-day/%3famp=true), this year also marked the 100 year commemoration of the deadly white supremacy fueled terror attack on Greenwood, OK outside of Tulsa. Google to learn more. The story was long untold because the victors define the narrative, but the truth has an uncanny way of resurfacing.

It’s a heavy burden to have your every moment shattered by this kind of news. It’s hard to lift your dignified head and smile. Comfort evaporates in the pools of pain this opens up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Progress slides away like a faulty glitchy shadow replaced with a warning to not destroy property. Property? What about life? But, this is how this system works, isn’t it? Let people have just an ounce of hope, of celebration, a step toward healing, the whisper of accountability, and then show them REPEATEDLY that it can all be taken away. This is personal. It is intentional. It is deeply disturbing. Lives like this young man are snatched away, ripping families apart, leaving carnage in its wake as a reminder. These murders are the surrogates of confederate statues being ripped down. They were reminders. Every black person in this country lives with this as a cancerous growth on our spirits. “You can’t be happy unless, I say you can be happy. You can’t get ahead, unless I say you can get ahead. You can’t live unless I say you can live.” All the outrage in the world doesn’t stop it. All the tears in the oceans doesn’t stop it. All the marching, video recording, body cams, going live, following the rules of the “the talk”... none of it stops it. You know why, accountability. Why would anyone stop doing something just because (chuckles in sarcasm) it’s the right thing to do??? No, these armed, trained, uniformed, protected murderers get away with this because time and time again NO ONE IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE. It doesn’t matter that in the same city, within blocks, a trial is under way for THE EXACT SAME THING. The cowardly cop KIM POTTER, ignoring all indicators to read the room, read the country, read ANYTHING, chose violence. And the cops in Virginia dishonoring the Army Memeber. So.... support the troops, huh. Blue lives matter, huh? Even the life of the black officer who was beaten by his own police force peers??? No. This is not an affirmative ALL LIVES MATTER that they try to make it seem - this is very clearly a reactive regressive BLACK LIVES don’t MATTER - even if you’re in the military or the police. Don’t be confused.

Posted • 56 years ago, around 600 Black demonstrators -- including John Lewis -- were attacked on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, during a peaceful march calling for Black voting rights.

Today, in states across the country, white supremacists are still using tricks and intimidation tactics to stop Black people from accessing our full right to vote. Many states are passing laws claiming to protect voting from fraud, but with the full intent of actually disenfranchising legitimate voters. Don’t be fooled.

This anniversary of Bloody Sunday is a poignant reminder that the fight to be fully recognized in our democracy is far from over. Being Black in America means having your citizenship tested at every opportunity.

Gems to kickstart your thinking in a more creative prosperous direction.

💎 Strategize YOUR role in moving communities forward (commerce, politics, and education, etc.)

💎 Buy a house with a 15 year fixed mortgage rather than a 30 year mortgage. Save 💵 in interest over the life of the loan. If you must get the 30 year, verify no prepayment penalty so you can pay off early and make lower payments when times are tough.

💎 When you start your job, get an HSA account not FSA and get the high deductible health insurance to lower your tax bracket and the money is yours to use.

💎Never buy a car brand new! Escalades go from 100k(new) to 35k four years later.

💎 Create an LLC(incorporate your name) and run it as an S Corp. Remember Jay-Z's quote "I'm not a Businessman I'm a Business Maaaaaan...let that sink in.

💎Build business credit for your business!! The loans are bigger and the interest rate is lower.

💎Get a business bank account(in most cases this costs around $500 to start). Use stimulus checks wisely.

💎 Go to Community College first then transfer into 4 year college(unless you have scholarships to mitigate the costs) as a Junior. School is a power move you must be able to secure the bag for the best cost value. STEM majors are always needed, in high demand, and the skills can directly help the Black Community.

💎If you want to support Black people, support Black businesses and Black Institutions of higher Education.

💎Get life insurance for you(whole life) and your children(term) as soon as they are born(we will all die someday ..might as well leave your kids something extra!!) You can borrow against it to fund certain projects. Look for the ones that pay out dividends like money market accounts!!

💎Get your immediate family members to save collectively!! 10 people save $500/mnth, that's 60k a year. $250 a month is $30k a year. You could buy 3 starter homes every year and in 4 years all 10 of you are home owners. Buy on the same block if you can to control the value of the homes.(remember Monopoly!

2021 is a reset. 2020 should be forever be known as the reset year, the catalyst for reflection and reconfiguration, an unparalleled opportunity to identify growth and to build from recovery. Everything about 2020 was different and many us learned how to cope and adjust to new and unfolding circumstances in ways we never thought we could. Our comfortable and likely stable lives were forever changed by uncertainty and confusion, but somehow we are gradually making it through....
