An important topic!

When you're struggling, are you a friend to yourself—or a harsh critic?

😩 "Noooo!!! Why?? JUST WHY!?"

💩 Have these words gone through your head when s**t hit the fan?

💭 Thinking about the cause of something that hasn't worked out can be helpful in terms of showing you what patterns, choices, behaviors or thoughts contributed to the proverbial s**t on the fan experience.

🔎 Finding that cause might help you to pinpoint the lessons to learn and hopefully not make the same mistake twice.

🛑 However, getting stuck in this more cause-oriented and analytical type of thinking stops being an effective method when it comes to moving on and creating a better future result than the past one.

🟢 That's when response-oriented thinking comes in.

🧿 Response-oriented thinking allows you to create, innovate, and act. It puts you in the right mindset to do something about a situation and move forward through it.

🧩 And how do you do it?

🧠 First, begin to train yourself to to distinguish these two types of thinking, and try to observe yourself in the midst of a challenging time.

🙋🏾‍♀️ Second, take yourself through these questions and evaluate where you're at.

🧘🏽Third, practice & repeat. Use this framework to train yourself over time to move between the two types of thinking, and become conscious of what kind of thinking you're using and when. Both are good, but you have to be able to discern when to use each.

📌 Use cause-oriented thinking when you want to understand the context of a situation and learn something from it.

📌 Use response-oriented thinking to move towards action.

🥰 With it, you can flip a challenging situation that had you feeling powerless into the realm of real possibility.

✅ Give it a try & save this post for future reference. 🙏

Have you survived a “lifequake"?

Bruce Feiler, author of the book called "Life Is in the Transitions: Mastering Change in a Non Linear Age," did some research on life transitions.

After interviewing hundreds of people about their stories, he found that, on average, a major change in an individual's life occurs every 12 to 18 months.

And the really significant ones—what Feiler calls “lifequakes”—seem to happen between three to five times in each person’s life.

He goes on to explain that some lifequakes are voluntary and joyful.

They could include getting married, having a child, getting A promotion, or buying a home.

Others are involuntary, unpleasant, and unwelcome, such as losing a job, a loved one, or managing a newly diagnosed life-threatening illness.

The point of his book is, transitions are a natural part of life.

Building resilience - physically, emotionally, and mentally - through lifestyle, habits and mindset is not only wise, it's necessary.

With it, one can successfully navigate these lifequakes with more ease, whatever they may be.

The ability to adapt to change is without question an invaluable life skill.

What has been the #1 thing that's helped you during your own lifequakes so far?

How often has someone said, "everything happens for a reason" to you just after you've shared something that's troubling you or has gone wrong.

While well intentioned, it's not the most compassionate response. In fact, it may do more harm than good.

If you're grieving or know somebody who is, you may have come across the words “everything happens for a reason.” But here's what this phrase gets wrong – and what to offer instead.

Remember when you were a child and making a new friend was as simple was walking up to another little person on the playground and asking, “Hey, do you want to play?” Yet as adults, honestly how terrifying and difficult can it be? It’s as if we don’t quite have the confidence anymore or the secret code to just get out there and connect meaningfully with new people.

I tend to favor boldness. And, lately I’ve been so grateful for total strangers with whom I’ve created a deeply meaningful connection, sometimes even in just one conversation.

As we plan what’s next for Lemon Rebellion, the topic of creating meaningful friendships in adulthood is one that we’re considering. Is this a topic that is relevant for you?

How have you been able to create new and meaningful friendships in adulthood? How did they show up, and what have the meant for you?
