Full shower screen or walk in. Need advice!

Hey people

Would be open to suggestions. It's a 1.3m opening. I'm worried about water spillage if it's left open.

Center tile/grout line in doorway or start with full tile against the wall. First time doing tile. My initial thought was to center the groutline in the doorways on the first row however that would result in small tiles against the wall. The walls are surprisingly square but I'm wondering if it would look better to start with a full tile against the wall so the subsequent rows would have a larger half tile. Other end of the room is going to be a wall of cabinets so not concerned what happens there.

PT Interior Floor Joist Sistering Mistake. In my rush to get out of the hardware store I mistakenly grabbed PT 2x8s instead of kiln dried 2x8s. I sistered them into the damaged floor joists under my second floor bathroom. Should I pull them out and replace with non-PT lumber before I close it up?

Advice!

Hi, I’m renovating a 1950s home with a brick veneer exterior that I don’t want to mess up. The original owners put on an addition in the 60s. When the addition was completed, the exterior brick just became interior walls (it was all left in place and painted).

One wall of this interior brick needs to be removed for the current renovation. I know it’s a structural wall, but the brick isn’t structural. I’m not doing the construction, but I’m doing some of the demo. Question: what is the best way to remove this interior brick without damaging the exterior brick? How do I terminate the demo. Do I just cut a line? Do I need a mason? Some type of vertical lintel? Thanks so much for your input!

Sound proofing soil stack, Morning all.

Wanted to get some advice please. I have an internal soil stack boxed in and previously wrapped with knauf

Acoustic insulation. Had to remove it and need to replace it all due to a leak, but wanted to check before I purchase more of this expensive stuff if my approach is the best to help reduce sound? Or should I be using a different product or method?

Help with suspended floor. What would you do?

Lifted all my floorboards to insulate, run some ch pipes (radiator being moved to under bay window) and re lay with osb. While I'm here I thought I may as well treat the wood too.

Now the boards are up, the joists are all over the place as they don't go into the wall, but rather sit on pads.

However, there's no sleeper wall, but rather a beam running perpendicular (again, sat on pads) that doesn't actually make contact with the joists and doesn't extend far enough for the two joists closest to the camera (furthest from window). Now that I've opened the rooms up, these two joists will see the most traffic so want to get something underneath them. My plan is to build another pad and sister another beam to extend the support for these two joists

Would shimming under the joists, so that he support beam is making constant contact, or install some brackets be best? I worry that metal fittings may attract condensation.

Would installing noggings be overkill?

Any extra thoughts or advice is hugely appreciated!

Is my sublfloor level enough for laminate?

Hi all,

Just a bit of background.

I bought a 1970s built house a couple of months back. Finally got round to ripping the old carpet up and found these 12"x12" tiles (not had them checked for absestos).

They are mostly still in good condition, apart from a tiny section on the edges where the carpet fitters put the tack strips down.

To the flooring situation (floor is around 23m^2 in total). I want to install some laminate down (12mm thick plank with 2mm integrated underlay) I bought from costco. It's AC5 rated and apparently quite long lasting from the reviews.

I've taken some photos, as you can see my subfloor is concrete in the living room and dining room (openplan), the a section of these tiles in the dining room.

I read the spec on the laminate sample which says it allows 2mm of level difference. I've tried to measure the gap between the tile and subfloor and it appears to be around 2mm. I put photos showing this gap and I also put photos showing the gap between the laminate sample (one plank) when laying on both concrete and tile.

So I'm wondering will I get away with putting the laminate down as is?

Should I put like an extra 2mm underlay on the conrete part and leave the tile.
Or should I just pay some one to use self levelling compound on the lot to encapsulate it? And then if I did that I would probably just pay for someone to do the floor.

Sorry for the essay. I'm a single mother sho works full time, whilst trying to reno the house on my own!!

Thanks for any advice!
