De Lune De Lune is a menstrual health company on mission to lift the period burden by setting a new standard

After spending her formative years battling debilitating menstrual pain, founder Mimi Millard felt the frustration of being held back by her period. Her fruitless search for natural solutions eventually culminated in an adverse reaction to a popular painkiller, landing her in the hospital. Jolted and more motivated than ever to find a safe alternative for everyone, Mimi joined forces with Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Courtney Mayszak to found De Lune. De Lune's naturally effective solutions for period cramps, mood swings, and other common symptoms provide real relief and support long-term cycle health. We're building a world where menstrual wellness is supported and celebrated, and no one is held back by their period.

(TW: Su***de) Let’s talk about it. 53% of su***de happens within the 8 days surrounding menstruation. With low moods, irritability, fatigue and anxiety running rampant, it’s not hard to see why. While we know that 1) mood and menstruation are correlated and 2) suicidal ideation and planning is more prevalent during the luteal phase, researchers haven’t yet established why exactly that is.

Our De Lune Journey

De Lune was born out of necessity.

I was in college and missing classes regularly due to crippling period pain. On a few unlucky occasions I got my period cramps unexpectedly during class, and those days were simply disastrous. I have a vivid memory of sitting on the floor in the corner of my Chemistry lab (during a timed experiment, mind you), crying and hugging my knees because I couldn’t stand up. The perplexed TA had no idea what to do with me.

So of course I began carrying all manner of over-the-counter painkillers with me wherever I went – something I had never done before. Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, Midol… they were my crutch. And this bugged me.

I was studying Environmental Engineering at the time and was hyper-aware of the environmental ramifications of large-scale pharmaceutical industry. I knew that medications like these could potentially harm entire ecosystems once they found their way into soil and water bodies (which they inevitably do). Not to mention, I considered myself a conscious consumer, and examined all the ingredients of everything I ate to ensure that they were safe and healthy for me. I was frustrated that I could not do the same for the medicine I was consuming.
