We are the only global "spokesgroup" for the Community Health approach. This approach entails working directly with the communities whose health is in question, and is often the key to reaching up to 50% of a country's population that otherwise has no access to critical health information and services. Our efforts to advance Community Health globally take a variety of forms. We are the home of the Community Health Network--a dynamic set of global health actors with a common purpose--advancing the quality and scale of locally-based efforts that reach underserved populations with information and services that prevent mothers and children from dying or suffering from preventable, treatable causes. Our network includes 52 non-profit member organizations that collaborate to improve the quality of their own programs, and share their ideas to help others do the same. As of July, 2009, our members work in 180 countries, serving communities through a spectrum of technical activities and local partnerships. Also, we are an independent organization that implements projects in collaboration with our members and other partners to create knowledge and extend the reach of community-based health programming.
