The first few minutes of my "What We Carry" talk were powerful. I stood on a scale, on a stage, and shared where my about started.

I know so many of you have a story similar to mine and I hope that this talk (being released in full soon) will help you put down some of that burden.

Five countries later including visits to two different families who we don’t get to see in the US. Summer vacation is over but the memories are for a lifetime!

Can you guess where we went? I may have thrown in a hint 🔎🔍👀

20th annual convention is over and I’m already missing the energy, the friendship and the support.

I took a risk on my talk on and —aiming to flip the script on the outdated messaging that is all it takes. I plan to share more about that emotionally charged talk later…stay tuned!

I recently shared the announcement of our new book, "The New Food Fight" on a very large listserv of mental health therapists. I hestiated and before I hit send, I added this: “If this topic does not align with your practice values, we understand and invite you to simply disregard this message.”

A disclaimer. For a book grounded in science and decades of clinical practice.

It’s a disclaimer that captures the very tension this book explores. The same tension our clients carry in their lived experiences. Because in our field, conversations about weight have become so ideologically charged that simply acknowledging the topic feels risky.

"The New Food Fight" is not “anti” anything. It’s a call to move beyond either/or thinking. To hold space for nuance. To stop pretending we have to choose between validating lived experience and engaging with scientific evidence.

So yes, I wrote a book. But I also wrote a disclaimer. And I’m still thinking about what that means.

The reviews are coming in and it is time to share some! Check out this recent review from world renowned researcher Dr. Brownell!

"This insightful, wise, reasoned, and compassionate book brings light where heat has been the rule. The eating disorders and obesity fields, important potential allies, have been at odds, but need not be. The authors guide us in brilliant ways to that promised place."
