When the nation needed healing and hope most, National Hospital Week (or Day when it started in 1921) began and was made official by then-President Harding. This was a message that hospitals were there to care for their communities, just like they are today.

Every year, U.S. hospitals deliver care at an incredible scale:
• 143+ million emergency department visits
• 28+ million inpatient admissions
• 33+ million babies delivered
This is what community commitment looks like.

There are over 5,000 community hospitals in the United States. The care they provide for patients is critical and often extends beyond the four walls of the hospital.

A safe and healing physical environment doesn’t just happen. It’s the result of dedicated expertise and daily work from health care facilities teams like Jessica Onaga’s at , who keep hospitals reliable and ready for care — often behind the scenes.

This National Hospital Week, we recognize health care facilities teams, from technicians to engineers to managers, who keep care environments safe, compliant, and supportive for patients, staff and communities.

Hospital Week Spotlight: Teamwork in Action 💙

When a ceiling leak turned into a full-scale flood in Sterile Processing earlier this year, it could have caused major disruptions. Instead, it became a powerful example of what teamwork truly looks like at Texas Health Fort Worth.

From Engineering quickly stopping the leak and securing the space, to Sterile Processing and Surgical Services leaders relocating the department and adjusting schedules—everyone jumped into action. Safety officers, Environmental Services, Supply Chain, Biomed, Infection Prevention, vendor partners, and so many others stepped in to support wherever needed.

In just hours, teams mobilized, adapted, and worked together to keep patient care moving forward—with operations largely restored by the same afternoon.

This is what Hospital Week is all about—recognizing the incredible collaboration, dedication, and commitment across every role that makes a difference for our patients every single day.

Thank you for living Our Texas Health Promise Principles and showing what it means to be one team.👏
