The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health is the voice of accredited public health education, representing the CEPH-accredited member schools and programs of public health. ASPPH strengthens the nation’s public health schools and programs and improves global health by:
Fostering quality education and practice-based training for the next generation of public health workers
Promoting public health as a career option
Monitoring trends relevant to public health education
Facilitating collaborations across schools and programs
Developing partnerships across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors
Advancing public health education that meets 21st-century demands is ASPPH’s core mission. To ensure public health workers have the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes, ASPPH:
Develops competencies and learning outcomes across the educational continuum
Sponsors fellowships and internships that offer “real-world” practice experiences
Promotes the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential
Leads Framing the Future, an interdisciplinary task force that is reconsidering public health education
As an advocate for the interests of academic public health, ASPPH:
Safeguards and expands the $1.5 billion-plus pool of federal grants and contracts to public health schools and programs for education, research, and practice
Reviews existing and proposed federal laws and regulations and advances policy positions
Strategic partnerships power the ASPPH agenda, with collaborations across public health disciplines and the wider community of health professionals. ASPPH is the successor to the Association of Schools of Public Health, established in 1953. In 2013, membership was expanded to include CEPH-accredited programs of public health.

Our closing plenary of the 2026 invited participants to reflect on what it means to lead with purpose, courage, and clarity. As our field seeks a blueprint for turning values into action and partnerships into lasting impact, this session centered on leadership that is grounded in principle and oriented toward progress.

Thank you to session hosts Edith Parker and Laura Magaña, as well as keynote speaker Shavon Arline-Bradley and moderator Cynthia M. Harris.

Most of all, thank you to all of our attendees who joined us this week. It is always a joy connecting with such an incredible public health community each year, especially during this milestone year as we celebrate ASPPH’s 85th anniversary.

We look forward to announcing the save-the-dates for the 2027 soon. Stay tuned and stay inspired!

Today’s afternoon plenary session at the 2026 brought together members of the academic public health community and leaders from the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement for a thoughtful, good-faith conversation about today’s most pressing public health challenges.

Through this session, we aimed to create space for diverse viewpoints, while demonstrating how difficult conversations about public health can be conducted in a constructive and respectful manner. The goal was not necessarily to reach consensus, but to deepen understanding.

The discussion was moderated by Tom Johnson of the popular podcast Why Should I Trust You?, which regularly examines topics such as vaccines, trust in science, and corporate influence on public health.

In response to the growing global focus on harnessing artificial intelligence to strengthen health systems and address public health challenges, ASPPH established the Task Force for the Responsible and Ethical Use of AI in Public Health to identify promising practices and develop recommendations for public health education, research, and practice.

Today we hosted a town hall at the 2026 to provide an overview of the Task Force’s work to date, highlight key themes and emerging guidance, and invite discussion on how schools and programs of public health can responsibly integrate AI into their missions.

Thank you to moderator Ashish Joshi and fellow panelists Abdul Shaikh, Kerry Nigel Mitchell, Umair Shah, Courtney M. Queen, Andrew C. Wiss, John M. Auerbach, Jessica S. Kruger, and Elahe Nezami.

We were thrilled to welcome everyone to the 2026 today with our opening plenary “Beyond the Choir: Changing the Narrative for Broader Reach.”

Public health too often speaks to those already on our side. This session explored how reframing both the message and the messenger can help us connect with audiences who are skeptical, disengaged, or simply out of reach.

Thank you to our hosts Laura Magaña and Melissa J. Perry, moderator Tom Frieden, and panelists Demetre Daskalakis, Celine Gounder, Brinleigh Murphy-Reuter.
