Skills on the Hill LLC

Skills on the Hill LLC We provide private therapy in our Capitol Hill and Arlington clinics for infants through middle schoo

At Skills on the Hill, we treat the whole child by considering the environment, the child's strengths and weaknesses, and what is meaningful to the child. We know that the child will do best when he or she is comfortable and motivated, so we disguise everything as play. At our pediatric occupational therapy clinic we address motor delays, visual motor and perceptual deficits, weaknesses with daily

living, self-help skills, difficulties with play and social skills, attention issues, and sensory processing and modulation disorders. For media inquiries, please contact community@skillsonthehill.com.

Hand strength plays a big role in everyday childhood tasks like writing, using scissors, and managing clothing fasteners. When these skills are difficult, occupational therapy can help strengthen the small muscles of the hands through fun, purposeful activities. ✋

Some signs parents might notice include:
• Trouble holding pencils or crayons properly
• Difficulty opening containers or snack bags
• Avoiding coloring, drawing, or craft activities
• Fatigue or frustration during writing tasks

Occupational therapy focuses on improving strength, coordination, and confidence so children can participate more easily at school and home. Read more here to see how OT can help: https://skillsonthehill.com/physical-therapy-treatments/occupational-therapy/?utm_source=pes_custom&utm_medium=social

Many children feel shy sometimes, but social anxiety can show up in ways parents don’t always recognize right away. Being aware of early signs can help families seek support sooner if needed.

Parents may notice:
• Avoiding group activities or playdates
• Extreme worry before school or social events
• Trouble speaking to peers or adults they don’t know well
• Physical complaints like stomachaches before social situations

Pediatric therapy can help children build confidence, social skills, and coping strategies so they feel more comfortable navigating everyday interactions.

If your child receives autism support services, you might wonder what therapy sessions actually look like. At pediatric therapy clinics, sessions are designed to feel supportive, engaging, and child-centered. 💙

Therapists often work on skills such as communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and daily routines through play-based activities and structured exercises tailored to each child. Every child’s plan is unique because their strengths and needs are unique too.

By around 12 months, many children begin using their first meaningful words, like “mama,” “dada,” or a favorite object. Keep in mind that:

• Words are used intentionally
• Sounds may not be perfectly clear yet
• Gestures and words often work together

Every child develops at their own pace, but if you have questions, early support can make a big difference.
